I feel like it’s about time I actually sit down and give a real explanation of fluffyverse instead of just random out of context art lol, especially since it's kinda morphed into my own interpretation of gijinkaverse canon

Basic gist of it is that the Kirbyverse is a universe that doesn't obey any of the classical or modern laws of physics. It's more like "what if the alchemists were sorta right" in the sense that the four matter types (kirbyverse equivalent of the four humours) actually do make up every living thing and an imbalance of them causes Issues. Also vitalism is a thing-- soul matter is basically lifeforce

Quick summary is that Heart is positive emotions, Dark is negative ones, Soul is life/physicality, and Dream is metaphysical/beyond living. It's occasionally possible to transcend and become a pure matter type, but for all its unstoppable power it's also highly unstable. Void is pure Soul, Zero is pure Dark, Elfilis is pure Dream, and maaaaaaaybe Galacta is pure Heart? I haven't decided yet we'll see (Kirby is so powerful bc they’re all four in ~perfect harmony~!)

anyway, magic is a thing that uses the power and energy inherent in your soul, but how that magic actually works I have not actually figured out yet. Anyone is capable of magic (tho how good they are at it and how much they can handle varies wildly), but it does destabilize your physical form. Because you're messing with the very constituents of your soul, it usually causes physical changes. It's kinda like how muscles tear and heal bigger to accommodate the pressures they're under and stuff-- the body physically mutates to be able to handle larger and larger amounts of magic. These mutations almost exclusively take the shape of animal features. The type of animal depends on the person and the magic they're using, whatever best adjusts the body to the high concentrations of magic. You can take the traits of multiple animals / become a chimera if you use a ton of different types of magic all the time, which is what happened to Hyness! The in-universe reason the magic causes animal traits is that there is no reason and the meta-reason is because I like drawing it :)

Once people reach a comfortable level of magic use, the corruption more or less stops. Also, super heavy magical corruption looks like one of two things: either really advanced animalistic traits (hyness) or just starting to melt / becoming really goopy (magolor). There's only a really small handful of people who don't look human / have really extensive and debilitating mutations / reach that 80%+ mark, and those are people who knowingly pushed their magic FAR beyond a healthy or reasonable limit (it's kinda just Sectonia, Magolor/Dark Matter as well as Hyness and a few other Ancients, but friend hearts can reverse a lot of the damage). Once you go too far past the 80% range, you’ll start to have mental corruption too

Here’s a little timeline of how the mages corruption progressed over time / during star allies as they messed around with a ton of super potent void magic to illustrate how a person can change over time (they got put back to the third stage by the friend heart :) ) also, ignore the text on the top of the images that’s outdated ^^

Last thing is that while physical mutation can happen as a result of using magic (this happened with Hyness) it can also result from having one or more magical parents, especially if one used magic while pregnant (happened with Susie, who doesn't use magic but is still very far along the mutation timeline because she inherited magical corruption from her mom). Then you have Meta Knight and the mages who were made / revived through magical means and were mutated that way.
