we don’t say, ‘rising into love;’ there is in it the idea of the fall. (x)
rhett lie as a man made of jell-o, head in link’s lap, at the mercy of the man’s rapturous hands as the brunet hummed a tune low in his chest.
“ever wonder why they say ‘fall in love?’” rhett sought, pushing his head into the palm carding through the hair at his temple, eyes half-closed.
link’s response came as a chuckle, fondly scraping his scalp. “i’m pretty sure that’s self-explanatory.”
rhett, eyes closed fully now, turned his head up to kiss the inside of link’s wrist, “but i feel light. falling is... a heavy verb. s’posed to hit the bottom sometime.” he sighed at a particularly pleasant maneuver of link’s fingernails behind his ear. “this doesn't hurt. feels perfect.”
“huh,” link clicked his tongue, “i may have to disagree with you there.”
rhett smiled, “don’t go easy on me.”
link flicked his ear. “if you say so.” a moment passed as link threaded his fingers through rhett’s on his own thigh, tracing his other hand over the petal-soft skin of the man’s apple cheeks and eyelids. “i definitely fell. but it didn’t hurt. i think they use that word as kind of a way to describe giving up everything all at once. which we both did.”
rhett took their joined hands and brought the knuckles to his lips. “speak for yourself.”
“shut up for a second,” link jabbed his side, a grin in his exasperation. “we didn’t know what we were getting into, y’know? it was kind of... a leap of faith. literally. and we couldn't see what was below us. it happened so fast. in a rush. we couldn’t’ve stopped ourselves if we’d wanted to. ‘fall’ is the perfect word.” he whispered now, after a pause, “we’ll only ever land if we give this up.”
rhett turned to burrow his face into link’s stomach, holding their hands to his chest.
“come up here, honey.”
rhett whined, “’m comfy.”
with a shake of his head, link rubbed a palm over his husband’s shoulders. “you’re so difficult.”
“jus’ come down here.” rhett smirked, bringing his free hand up to link’s cheek, pulling him down as much as he could.
“no kisses ‘til you tell me i’m right.”
“never.”
link let himself be pulled down anyway. the rush he felt in his gut once their lips met felt just as if he were, indeed, falling. he smiled, and held rhett tighter.
if the two of them were to ever hit the ground, he’d want them to do it together.
