This is what my doctor told me today. If you have been around someone with the flu as soon as you feel even the slightest symptoms (today I started having body aches and cold chills) call your doctor. They will prescribe you Tamiflu. If your symptoms have gone on less than 2 days Tamiflu can help stop the infection from getting worse and also shorten it. After 2 days it’ll only shorten it by 12-24 hours. I’m gonna post the symptoms so you know what to look out for if you have been or possibly have been exposed to the flu.
More facts about flu (got all from either my doctor, the CDC or NHS):
*It’s spreads by airborne respiratory droplets (coughs or sneezes), skin-to-skin contact (handshakes or hugs), saliva (kissing or shared drinks), and touching a contaminated surface (blanket or doorknob)
*The flu virus can survive up to 24 hours on hard surfaces while only 15 or so minutes on skin
*The flu virus can survive in air as droplets, especially in cold temperatures, for several hours
*You are contagious from the first symptoms being shown till about 24 hours after your fever has subsided
*It takes 1-4 days to develop symptoms of the flu after being in contact with the virus
*Frequent hand washing is critical to help stop the flu from spreading
*We are currently in the peak of flu season
*Dogs and cats cause also get the flu but it not caused by you nor can you get the flu from them
*This year’s flu vaccine is around 30%-40% effective in the US. The 10% we keep hearing is from the vaccine is actually from Australia. The US vaccine seems to be a little more effective.
*“This is the first year we had the entire continental U.S. be the same color on the graph, meaning there’s widespread activity in all of the continental U.S. at this point,” CDC Influenza Division Director Dr. Dan Jernigan said during a briefing on Friday. “It is in a lot of places and causing a lot of flu.”
