it had been a long time since she last found herself being excited for her birthday and she doesn’t feel any different today. it’s a little depressing to admit, but she finds today to be especially a little bit more difficult. it certainly wasn’t her first day without her father, but it had been her first birthday in the clover kingdom. and ever since the day of his death, she’s found herself not exactly enjoying any of her birthdays that came afterwards.
even if it was better than spending the day with her mother, she still couldn’t help but feel a little melancholic. having to spend the whole day at the clover kingdom, the most she got in terms of birthday wishes were text messages from nabi and some of her other friends in the other kingdoms. but when it came to her own kingdom, it was really just any regular tuesday and she couldn’t find the energy nor the effort to let anyone else know that it was her birthday today. she knows that some of the people within the castle walls didn’t see her negatively, but she still couldn’t help but feel a little... lonely.
what makes the feeling worse is when she gets a call from her mother of all people, calling her to check in on how she was doing. it was silly of her, but she had hoped that her mother would be calling to wish her daughter a happy birthday. by the time her mother was preparing her goodbyes over the phone was when she spoke up. “do you remember what day it is?” she had asked her. and when her mother showed no signs of realizing it was her birthday, she immediately got frustrated at her own daughter for expressing her hurt over the fact that she had forgotten.
“you’re so selfish. all you care about yourself. the world doesn’t revolve around you, you know. you talk so big about your special day when you can’t even bother to act like the proper daughter i deserve.”
and that ended their conversation.
she’s still frustrated over the call hours later, but she wasn’t really sure on how to express her frustrations when no one was there to listen to her express her frustrations. so as she goes on about her day in the castle, she barely notices it, but there’s a sense of agitation in the air that surrounded her. and even as soon as it reached the evening time, she was still so upset over the interaction as well as the fact that no one in the kingdom had wished her a happy birthday today that she founds herself unable to sleep.
and though she told herself that she’d break the habit that she has had since she was a child, she finds herself walking to the kitchen in search of something to snack on. though the kitchen was much different from hers, meaning it’d take a while to navigate for something she was looking for, she was able to find some little cookies that had been saved since her trip to the bakery earlier this morning. but as she grabs the bag that she had them in, she hears footsteps from somewhere downstairs. she freezes in her position, wondering that due to the fact she didn’t turn the lights, would the other person be able to see her if she didn’t move?
she hopes that’s the case. she didn’t want to explain to someone she barely talked to about why she’s grabbing a bunch of cookies to munch on to help with her anger.
