The Fly II (1989) dir. Chris Walas. 7.2/10
I love that he cared for the dogs.
It’s really disgusting to see the transformation into the fly thing, but also very accurate imo in color.
Imagine growing up and having to learn that you’re part fly. I would vomit. (before it becomes fly vomit)
Spoiler: [About Ronnie giving birth and dying. What comes out her is a sac, but it opens up to be a baby boy. Bartok Industries watch over the boy’s growth and give him medications throughout. He seems to have a fast growing rate, along with a superior intellect. His name is Martin and he asks if he can talk with Mr. Bartok, but the scientists tell him he’s busy. He requests to go visit and they say h doesn’t have zone 4 clearance. He takes in his key badge ID and hacks into the system, allowing himself access into Zone 4. He now occasionally sneaks in to Zone 4 using the air vents. He brings in parts of his dinners and makes friends with a dog kept in a cage. One day, he comes across an experiment being done in Zone 4. He notices his dog is being used. It’s put inside one telepod and it seems to reappear in another telepod, but it comes out super aggressive and attacks the scientist checking up on it. He screams and is taken notice of by Mr. Bartok. Then, he turns 5 years old, but looks like a full grown up. Mr. Bartok brings him out of his observation room that he grew up in and gives him his own house away from prying eyes. He then offers him a job at Bartok Industries so that he won’t get bored with his intellect and creativity. He is to figure out how to get the telepods to work. They say the knowledge and secrets of it had died with his father and they are sure he can refigure it out. So far, sending even an apple makes it come out as a mush. He manages to get a telephone to transfer properly and work. He calls in and asks if he can get a live object like a plant, but they say they can’t help until morning since it is night. He never sleeps, so he goes around. He notices a fake fly on a fishing line being constantly thrown back and forth and catches it. It’s thrown by another female worker named Beth. He invites her to his lab and brings her cactus with him. He transfers it and it comes out deformed. He wants to be friends with her and asks if they can keep meeting. She says she’ll stop by at 10 during her breaks each night. The scientists giving Martin his medication throughout the years are also annoyed with him and treat him without care. He gets a needle put in him and the needle breaks and he takes care of it himself. He spends his night working with Beth and also dancing with her. She invites him to a get together one day with the office workers. He doesn’t really interact with others, but overhears about a specimen that has been here for 2 years and checks it out. He realizes it’s his dog and it’s mutilated and suffering. They’ve been observing it for the 2 years even though Mr. Bartok says they gave it a clean death. He gets upset and lashes out at Beth and stops giving her clearance to the floor he works on. He goes and pets his dog after getting it to be nice and kills it cleanly. He then brings Beth over to his work after apologizing and shows her a kitten. He puts it in the telepod even though she’s afraid. It teleports perfectly fine. They then have sex at his place. He then notices that his injury from the broken needle is getting horrible. He’s worried he’ll lose his arm and confronts the scientists. They just put in the medicine and put it at that. The scientist goes to Mr. Bartok and says he’s transforming rapidly and there’s nothing to do about it. A security guard, who hates Martin gives Beth a video tape and a file that shows she’s been transferred to a different building. She watches the tape and it’s their sex tape, because Martin’s house is rigged to watch him. She tells Martin and he breaks up his home and finds all the cameras. He then goes to see all the videotapes involving his father’s research and the research on him. He comes across a tape he’s never seen of his mutated father. He learns the true part of his genetics since he grew up believing he just grew up quickly. Mr. Bartok appears at that moment and says he’s glad this happened. Martin doesn’t want it and says he’ll take his medication. Mr. Bartok says they’re all placebo and he’ll help make this transition as painless as
possible. Martin runs off. Mr. Bartok tries to get his people to access the telepods, but there is a password asking for the magic word. If anything is inputted incorrectly, it destroy everything. Martin goes to Beth and he’s starting to look ugly. He tells her his problem. They head to Seth’s place since he’s the only one who may be able to help him. He doesn’t welcome them, but they make their way into his home. Martin asks about his father’s process, because he was looking for a cure. Seth talks of his hatred for Martin’s father and says the cure has something to do with the pods. Martin refuses that answer since he knows the only thing the pods can do involves sacrificing another life for his. They leave and check into a motel. Beth signs underneath a different name because they are on the news. Martin realizes he’s disintegrating more and runs away. She gets him back eventually. As they rest, he appears to not be able to move anymore and his body is horrifying. She calls in Bartok, who find himself in a half cocoon form. They ask him for the password, but he doesn’t give it up. They research him back at the lab, where he is in full cocoon. They hose down Beth in case of contamination and try to get the password from her. The scientist pulls liquids out of the cocoon to test. Unknowingly, the cocoon breaks and Martin comes out as a fly like creature. He kills her. Another scientist finds her body and runs away while telling people what happened. They set out all forces to capture him since they want him alive. Martin manages to kill everyone that comes across his way. They even set off a dog on him, but he pets it and keeps it soft. They have all the doors sealed for the telepod room. He manages to get in. The security guard that hates him is determined to kill him despite orders to keep him alive. He is then killed by Martin after accidentally shooting down a scientist. Martin grabs Mr. Bartok and uses his hands to type in the password, which is dad. He then drags him and himself into the telepod and teleports them. Beth is the only one outside and approves it to happen. Two deformed figures come out. Beth hears Martin and rips him open from a outer form and he shows up perfectly as himself while Mr. Bartok is deformed and ugly. Mr. Bartok is now being observed in the same place the dog was being observed.]
