Kakashi had his back to a broad tree trunk, leaning against it as he allowed himself to fall in between the pages of his favourite Icha Icha novel. The sun was shining, there was the fluttering of birds wings somewhere in the distance, and Kakashi hadn’t felt quite so relaxed in a while.
His s/o, Y/N, was climbing up above him, using the stable branches to practice their chakra control. He could hear the rustling above him, and while most of his focus was on the graphic content of his book, he was also keeping an ear out for his s/o, to make sure that they didn’t miss a branch and fall.
Movement in the tree stopped for a few moments, so Kakashi could only assume from a quick glance upwards that his s/o had settled into the tree and found a comfy position to read their own book.
It was only when he heard a muttered curse and the sound of flailing that he looked up, barely having time to register before his shinobi reflexes kicked in and he threw down his book, his arms coming to awkwardly catch Y/N instead.
“Whoa, easy. If you wanted my attention you didn’t have to try so hard.”
Y/N snorted. “Shut up.”

Oh my god, I have a lifetime of embarrassing stories up my sleeve. Okay, so when I was in middle school, the science department had a staircase that went straight down into the main corridor that led to the assembly hall and I was trying to talk to my science teacher, Mr Thurgood, about the homework assignment, and as he said, “Careful, don’t trip.” What did my dumb ass do? You got it. I tripped over his foot straight down the full length of the stairs, at the busiest time of the day - lunch hour. I was mortified.
