TSA takes on issue of improving transgender screening

The Transportation Security Administration has improved its transgender screening, but privacy concerns persist about full-body scans and pat-downs.

The National Center for Trans Equality reports that 43% of transgender adults who had flown on a plane in the past year reported reporting a negative experience such as being patted down by an officer of the wrong gender or being loudly questioned about their body parts at a checkpoint. This is unacceptable and we must work to get the word out.

While being detained not once was I told what for. Not once was I offered an explanation for questioning. Not once was I taken to a private room, this was done in sight of all travelers in line to OUT me and inspire other harassment. This is America, the true America. If they treat citizens like this imagine what is done at the border. I’m done with the conservative agenda, what has been created is a state that tries to rule by terror and intimidation. It’s no longer just a difference of opinion, it’s a difference of moral ethics and conservatives apparently have none. today in nightmares of flying while trans: told the woman i couldn’t go through the special scanner because i couldn’t reach my hands above my head (just had top surgery), got glared at and then had my bag triple searched because she didn’t like me. started my cycle and bled through my shorts :)

This time I not only had to go through the scanner twice, but they gave me a patdown of SPECIFICALLY the groin area. #travelingwhiletrans ugh

the tsa made me go through the body scanner 3 times and get patted down even though i was clear on the second scan (the only one they marked "female" for even though i told them to all 3 times). wasnt even wearing a damn binder. im PRETTY sure they arent supposed to scan you again if youre clean but, you know. trans people are scary!
