Throughout June Freedom for All Americans asked supporters of LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination protections to sound off about what they were #ProudToBe – whether they're proud of their LGBTQ identity, their family, their job, or their support for equality! Check out just a few of the responses that flooded our inbox, and share to cap off LGBTQ Pride Month! http://bit.ly/2tMJIAm (Music: www.bensound.com)
It's been 3 years since same-sex couples nationwide have had the freedom to marry – and in that time, we've pushed forward for #LGBTQ nondiscrimination. Let's keep up the momentum: Urge your reps to support federal protections, including the #EqualityAct: http://freedomforallamericans.org/IDoCommit
Atlanta-area advocate Tracee McDaniel is the Executive Director of the Juxtaposed Center for Transformation, and through her work she empowers others to strive for a world free from discrimination. Read more about her, and tell us what you're #ProudToBe! http://bit.ly/2CsixRh
Happy Pride Month from @netflix and Jamie Clayton of #Sense8, who speaks here about the importance of transgender people in the media, especially transgender people playing transgender roles.
Keeping a promise he made to the transgender community, Republican Governor Chris Sununu has signed comprehensive nondiscrimination protections for transgender Granite Staters into law. Freedom New Hampshire, the campaign to secure these protections, has worked for nearly 3 years to get to this day — we are proud to have been a founding and leading member!
It's been three years since the official founding of Freedom for All Americans, our bipartisan campaign to secure nondiscrimination protections for all LGBTQ people nationwide! We'll be thrilled when the first week of June arrives and we don’t celebrate our anniversary – because that will mean that we’ve met our goal and happily closed our doors, mission fulfilled. Today, let’s take a minute, recharge, celebrate 3 years of great work with our brand new video, and then get back to work! http://bit.ly/2sN9i7Z
The U.S. Supreme Court has issued its ruling in 'Masterpiece Cakeshop' – in a very narrow opinion limited to this one case. The decision reaffirms the core importance of nondiscrimination and our nation's longstanding principle that businesses open to the public must be #OpenToAll. Get informed about the decision: http://bit.ly/2JaPc1k
Happy Pride Month, Tumblr!
For the next 30 days, we’re shining the spotlight a little bit harder on all different kinds of LGBTQ+ voices to celebrate what being queer means to them. We have Answer Times planned with celebrities, artist highlights with incredible members of the Tumblr community, and we’re partnering with our friends over at Huffington Post (@huffpost) to signal boost their celebration with prominent members of the community.
Wanna join in on the conversation? We hope so. This means nothing without you. You deserve to be heard every day of the year—let this historic month be a time to turn your pride up several damned notches. Share your story with your followers. Let ‘em know how you honor yourself. Is it with art? Poetry? Selfies showing off that beautiful face? Writing slash fic? Hey, it’s all valid. Tag your story and art with #TumblrPride so it’s easy for the community to find.
Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for a certain extremely #20gayteen Answer Time later this month. You don’t want to miss it.
Stay proud, stay safe. You matter. Don’t let anyone tell you any differently.

🌈The fact is there’s room for everyone – and a role for all to play – in our movement to end anti-#LGBTQ discrimination. All LGBTQ people and their allies should celebrate our steps forward, commit to the work ahead, and take pride. That’s why all this month we’re sharing stories of supporters of LGBTQ equality who are sounding off on why they’re “Proud to Be…,” whether that phrase ends with “transgender,” “legally married,” or “a supporter of equality.” Please take a moment to tell us what you’re Proud to Be – just click here to share with us!
Great news from last night! A federal judge affirmed what many courts have now ruled – that discrimination against transgender students violates Title IX of the Education Amendments. Congratulations to the ACLU – and thank you to Gavin Grimm, who has devoted too many years of his adolescence fighting against discrimination: http://bit.ly/2x1ldDs
We know that when people better understand who LGBTQ people are, understanding grows. It’s so vital that we share our stories and speak out in support of the LGBTQ community – today on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, and every day. http://bit.ly/2Iq7awD
The Most Rev. Michael B. Curry, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the US, served as the lead signer of a U.S. Supreme Court brief in support of dignity for transgender people – and this weekend, he will preach at the Royal Wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry! Read more about his strong support for LGBTQ equal treatment – and why it matters at this huge international event: http://bit.ly/2L4MdF5
This is SO HUGE! The Republican-led legislature of New Hampshire voted YES to protecting transgender people from discrimination! Amazing work by advocates on the ground! Please share to spread the word about this historic win, the first proactive victory on LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination in two years! bit.ly/2HMbUIp
HUGE news! Anchorage has made history tonight as one of the first cities ever to uphold nondiscrimination protections for transgender people by popular vote! Congratulations to everyone who worked on, donated to, or volunteered for the Fair Anchorage campaign – this vote is a game-changer for our movement nationwide. Share this to help celebrate! bit.ly/2GIZMrr
As she prepares to film the sequel to last year’s smash hit Wonder Woman, acclaimed director Patty Jenkins spoke to Freedom for All Americans about the lack of federal LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination protections, President Trump’s anti-transgender military ban, and Wonder Woman’s role as an LGBTQ icon. Don’t miss the article! http://bit.ly/2q4Sk2y
Thanks for Joining Us for ‘Answer Time’!
Thank you all for joining me, Tumblr’s @action community, and Freedom for All Americans’ Transgender Freedom Project for this special #AnswerTime! I had such a great time answering all of your questions and helping folks understand a bit more about transgender equality.
Here’s how you can stay engaged:
Follow Freedom for All Americans’ Transgender Freedom Project here on Tumblr
Get involved with your local chapter of the ACLU! The ACLU of Mississippi has been great to me and many states have their own chapters. www.aclu.org
Follow me on Tumblr, ‘Truthfully Malaysia’ – here! Feel free to ask me additional questions or share what’s on your mind.
Keep getting the word out about the need for LGBTQ-inclusive non-discrimination protections and transgender-specific education and advocacy.
Cheers, and Happy Transgender Day of Visibility – tomorrow, March 31!
