🌻This is how I look when I’m counting my blessings.✨🤲🏾Spending most of my down time thinking about how far I’ve come in the 47 years I’ve been on this earth is a therapeutic pastime. I’m so grateful for my family and friends, and at my big age I recognize the most important things in life are not things. Love your people and live with the remembrance of your Creator.❤️🔥 Have a blessed Thursday, y’all.😘 #FlyNoteToSelf #ThoughtfulThursday #BlackMuslimGirlFly 📸: @schaunchampion (at Rawlings Conservatory & Botanical Gardens) https://www.instagram.com/p/CV3VRECPVF8/?utm_medium=tumblr
#Repost @Nia.Malika.Dixon: For a while, I’ve been sick with symptoms that have yet to point to one easy diagnosis. I’ve been navigating medical racism, advocating for my health during a pandemic. It’s been a harrowing experience. As a Black woman, I’ve been gaslighted, dismissed, & ignored to the point that one hostile ER doctor didn’t even physically examine me, then rudely discharged me after 10 min. Imagine suffering through scary symptoms and having the people you think will care for you, treat you like you’re less than human, not worthy of a kind word let alone basic care. I’ve ultimately been dedicating my daily practice to caring for my physical and mental health as best as I can, even if I’m suffering through these symptoms and doctors have given me no answers. That has meant that I hired a functional medicine doctor, who ordered tests that revealed a connective tissue disease. That’s meant that I bought physical therapy equipment to help me with stretching exercises and electro-stim therapy at home. That’s meant that I fast from eating any food with more than 3 ingredients. That’s meant I’ve been practicing laying down a lot, and performing breathing exercises, yoga and meditation, and drinking lots of spring water. This mantra has lifted my spirits and kept me going: Pray, breathe, stretch, drink water. I have a new primary care physician, a Black woman, so I’m optimistic about the next few months. But, the system is so broken, and she is one doctor in the machine so I’m not putting all the responsibility on her. I have appointments with specialists coming up, and I will continue doing my part to take care of me. Unfortunately, I know I’m not alone, so know that if you’re struggling I’m in the trenches with you. I’ve turned my mantra into a t-shirt, and put it on my mug. It keeps me going. Perhaps it can inspire you, too.❤️🔥🙏🏾 ~ Visit BlackMuslimGirlFly.com for official FLY merch! #MondayMotivation #FlyNoteToSelf #BlackMuslimGirlFly #BlackMuslimGirlFly® #BlackMuslimsAreFly #BlackMuslimCreativesAreFly #BeingBlackAndMuslim #BlackMuslimah #BlackMuslimahExcellence #BlackCreatives #BlackMuslimNarrative #BlackMuslimCulture #BlackMuslimGirlFly® https://www.instagram.com/p/CVd8CXzPmMw/?utm_medium=tumblr
