Core Pure Maths Chapter 1
1.2 multiplying Complex Numbers
Fact: -/a x -/a = a
Therefore i^2 = -1 because
-/(-1) x -/(-1) = -1
5i^2 = 5 x -1 = -5
1.3 Complex Conjugation
cc means Complex conjugate
As previously established
z = a + bi therefore the complex conjugate is z*
If z* is the cc of z then z* = a - bi
For example if z = 3 +7i then its cc (z*) will be 3 - 7i.
More examples;
z = 5 - 2i, z* = 5 + 2i
z = -10 - 6i, z* = -10 + 6i
