An illusration from the glossary section of Famitsu's Tales of Destiny Perfect Guide (2007), as the text vagueposts about Leon being too chicken to get ice candy. lol
They don't smile much because they haven't met each-other yet.
So Leon is able to smile here because he's met them... ( .;´;_ゝ;`:,)
The guidebook bullies Leon too
Notes from the Q&A from the PSX version's famitsu guide (I am super amateur, take all this with a grain of salt and pray someone who knows what they're doing eventually comes along)
Lienea is an entirely self-sufficient village. The culture there is one where everyone takes care of each-other, so they don't worry about money much unless they leave the village. (Said in answer to a question about whether shepherding pays well enough)
The Dark Wings planned to climb a mountain and set up a ladder to reach and destroy the aethersphere... but Grid is afraid of heights.
The dragon that can hatch from the egg is of an almost extinct species of dragon that was more common during the war.
Confirming that zombie Leon was wielding Chaltier. He could still use artes even like that because of their bond, which is incomparably deeper than that between any other characters.
There are no plans for a sequel (lol)
I didn't read much of it, but some bits from the namco guide's interview section
The reason for the lack of smiles through most of the opening animation is that they haven't met each-other yet. (this note was in Leon's section...)
Ikemori (DEEN) wrote the lyrics based on the feeling that the story was about a person's growth through love and friendship, after having read the materials about the game's story, which weren't complete yet. It was surprisingly easy and fast for them to write the entire song.
The opening is a love song. Wishing that a parting that you don't want to accept was only a dream. Meeting someone you treasure is like a miracle, so even if the bond between two people ends, the fact that you met and were able to spend irreplaceable time together is something wonderful. It also applies to the feelings between friends and the Swordians. (The words used here are typically but not exclusively used to refer to romantic breakups)
DEEN would have liked to do a potential sequel's opening theme too (before there were actually any plans of a sequel) (Though they did eventually get to do more music for Destiny in the form of... the pachislot....)
Imai (Rutee's VA) thinks if Stahn ever said something like "I love you, I never want to let you go", Rutee would respond "If you've got time to spout stuff like that, go make some money" or a cheeky "Yeah me too"
I only ended up reading these because I had found some photos someone took of a guidebook that included scripts and trigger conditions for the PSX version's skits, so I went flipping through the guides that had been scanned. Sadly, it must have been a different guide. Nobody had copied the trigger condition information anywhere that I could find, either. :(
Just a heads up for any super strong and beautiful translators out there
archive.org has a pretty hefty amount of artbooks and guidebooks (both English and Japanese) from the Tales series scanned and available for download. Some have l o r e in them.
