MacCready Week 2026, Day 1: Lamplight

I put this piece through a few more passes for the prompt today. This one was loosely inspired by the opening scene of Grave of the Fireflies, a film (based on a book) about the consequences of war on children.

I get u, idk how to feel about the whole Lucy MacCready situation either

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that concept a lot, it has really good potential and is better than the canon on. I did say it was a no from me because I still don't like MacCready having a dead wife, which is my main gripe, plus you can easily make it the same Lucy without changing things drastically. Plus it gives good angst potential considering my Sole's character.

I just don't know about another great female character becoming a fridged spouse, and idk I feel like MacCready moves on pretty fast with telling the sole that them telling him they loved him was the greatest day of his life.

But that could be Bethesda.

I kinda just flip between the two, I do lean more on Lamplight Lucy being his wife, because it's the least crappy backstory, but my dislike mostly stems from the fact I wish MacCready wasn't another sad dead wife backstory.

What I meant in my prev post is that I'm mostly salty about the idea, not because I hate Lamplight Lucy being his wife, it's definitely the better of the two.

I'm just sad about her being a fridged spouse and that's why I hate it, even though I prefer it over there being two Lucy's.
