Lundi Linkara : Foam Lizard (Eliza)

Boy is this gonna be a hard one to explain... You know when I say Linkara can turn anything into a character for his show? Well, that’s about as literal as it gets when we take a look at today’s Atop the 4th Wall character: Eliza, the Foam Lizard.

First introduced as a Christmas gift from Dr Linksano to Linkara, the blue dollar store toy was apparently brought to life by Linksano with the help of science (of course!) and some ‘magic box’... Yeah, well, as a pretty recent fan of Doctor Who myself, I must admit that if rolling trash cans with siphons for hands can be the deadliest race in the universe, I guess a sentient foam toy can very well become a freedom fighter! It’s unclear though what her purpose originally was. Some believe that she was to be another type of sentinel like the Cybermats, others speculate that she may have been meant as a sort-of mate for Pollo... As for me, I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that perhaps a certain Doctor felt a bit lonely around Christmas and tried to ‘Weird Science’ himself a new girlfriend but couldn’t find a Barbie doll, so he just used whatever toy was lying around that day. Hey, don’t start judging! The heart wants what it wants.

Anyway, the newly alive Foam Lizard arrived around the time the King of Worms was working his mojo on Linkara’s Cybermats, making them knock out people all around the place. Silently witnessing theses events unfolding, the Foam Lizard was seen peeking around corners and quickly retreating without alerting anyone, making it unsure whether or not she was an ally or a foe in disguise at this point.

When it was revealed that both Linksano and Harvey have been robot replacements just as Linkara was about to go confront the King of Worms, the Foam Lizard was again watching quietly from the shadows, seeing dozens of Cybermats surrounding our hero and robot-Harvey firing upon him.

After Linkara was sent to the Court of Worms, the Foam Lizard finally decided to act (and talk) and so with the help of Nimue she was able to reanimate a stunned Pollo. Seemingly unaffected by the King’s control over machines, Pollo and Nimue start questioning the Lizard about her latest whereabouts, since she had been rarely seen around the apartment and that her loyalties were sort of dubious. Not only do they learn that she calls herself ‘Eliza’ (get it, get it?) but also that she has been aware for a while of the Cybermats’ strange behavior and attacks. She reveals that being new to this world, she had to take some time to adjust and figure out stuff on her own, and although she apologized for not speaking out sooner, she just didn’t know what to do or who to trust at that point. Understanding, being essentially a blue plastic toy himself, Pollo enlists her to help with Linkara’s rescue and devises a plan to take on the King of Worms in a surprise assault. The attack didn’t go quite as planned, but the King was defeated in the end, and the rest is AT4W’s history.

Now officially one of Linkara’s Lovely Ladies (Ok I made that up, but we all love alliterations, don’t we?), Eliza does what a lizard does best; sunbathing by the window and hardly moving at all. She also visits Linksano on occasions for totally innocent tea and biscuits. What? Hey, what they do on their own time is their business. They deserve a little privacy!

Wait... Have I really just written 6 paragraphs about a foam lizard? I swear to God Linkara, if your next new character is a marble, I’m done with this!

*Sigh* Who am I kidding, of course I won’t. A marble... I can roll with it! See, the stupid puns already write themselves!
