#FOCCA2020 May 14: Role Swap (Nick Valentine and John Hancock)
Okay Im super late on this one, oops. But yeah, thought id swap my two favourite Fallout 4 bois.
Nick Valentine wandered from the pillaged remains of the community that were the first to accept him. All those people. The mechanic, the kind woman who's shop he helped her with, Jim... just gone. Everywhere else were people who were repulsed by him. Nick wandered until he eventually came to Goodneighbor. A lawless place that, while most gave the usual reaction of fear and hate, were too riled up in their own discourse. He mostly kept to himself, at least he was safe from the outside world. However, the leader, Vic, was getting more aggressive. Once Nick saw him threaten a woman with a child, he finally stood up and demanded the man to stop. Vic simply laughed and threw him out. Nick went back to wandering, feeling guilty. Another settlement was going to be in ruins because of that asshole. He eventually took refuge in a police station. He explored, trying to collect resources. He came across a uniform. Looking at it set off a spark in Nick's head. The man who's memories he had were a cop. He stood up for justice. For what was right. He wouldn't let goons take advantage of all those people. And if Nick couldn't do the same then he didn't deserve to have the man's identity! He donned the cop uniform and broke into the contraband locker, collecting as many weapons as he could. He went back to Goodneighbor, now with a new sense of purpose. He wasn't going to sit around anymore. He was going to take back the town for the people. And he did. Once Vic's goons saw him, decked out in weaponry, a lot of them fled. But some fought. But Nick was a machine with bullets hardly damaging him apart from the plastic flesh that easily came apart. Eventually, Nick stood victorious, the body of the tyrannical leader at his feet. People started emerging from the shadows, looking at the bloodbath. Some were curious, others terrified.
One voice cried out. "He saved us!"
Nick stood there as a ghoul ran to him. "He single handedly defeated Vic and his goons, just like the Shroud! He's a hero!"
Another voice asked. "What do you want, robot?"
Nick thought for a moment before answering. "Freedom for all." The people looked to each other, confused. Others voiced their concerns and shouted about a synth in thsir city.
The ghoul spoke once more. "Are you guys crazy? Look what he's done for us! Sir, what's your name?"
Nick looked to all the poeple staring at him. He took a confident step forward. "My name is Nick Valentine. And I will protect this town no matter what."
The town spoke. "That doesn't sound like something an evil robot would say." "What if he's tricking us?" "He did take a lot of damage fighting Vic and his boys." "It's not like any of us helped."
The ghoul turned to Nick. "I think they like you! Did you really mean what you said about protecting us all?"
Nick nodded. "You really are like the Shroud!" He turned to the people. "We don't know a lot about these synths but this one's good. He should be the one to protect us! In fact, I'd say he becomes our new leader!" There was a divide in the town. Many disagreed with the ghoul.
"Look." Nick began. "I heard about what happened to those from Diamond City. Most people outside don't give a damn about this town but I do! I know what it's like to be different, to be an outcast! Together, we can be stronger. Together we can have freedom for all!" Nick announced. The ghoul started clapping with others eventually joining in.
The ghoul grinned at Nick. "Looks like it's decided then! Come on, Ill show you to your new home!" Nick followed the ghoul into the large building.
"That isn't necessary."
"Of course it is, our new leader deserves the best! Boy, I can tell things are going to turn right around with you in charge."
Nick chuckled. "I'll do my best."
(I was planning to write a thing for Hancock too but after ages of trying, I really couldn't shorten it.) Essentially, he was forced to stay in Diamond City after the ghoul ban by his brother. He soent most of his time just lounging around, sneaking in drugs and trying his best to annoy his brother. He snuck out one time to check on the ghouls that were forced out of Diamond City and ended up helping a woman find her husband. When he came back, his brother was furious but surprised when Hancock (who has his original last name) said he was ready to get a job, helping people. The journey with the woman finding her husband inspired him after realizing how many people were split up and struggling in the Commonwealth. He opened up his own detective agency, using it as an excuse to help the ghouls and get out of town but also so he could get caps for his addiction.
In the context of the game, the Sole Survivor probably has to rescue Hancock from a drug ring. He's reluctant to help, sensing a huge job but when realising the Institute might be involved, he reflects upon his Brother's actions, maybe starting to believe the rumours that he's a synth. He wants answers. But that's not to say the fact that a parent is mising their child doesn't convince him too. Nick Valentine is in charge of a more tidy, les chaotic Goodneighbor. He's very welcoming and generally keeps everyone in check. Kent Connolly is his second in command, helping him keep up to date but otherwise keeping to himself. He and the Sole Survivor meet when they're in search of the Memory Den. Nick is very welcoming, especially since they're with Hancock who occasionally works with Nick to make sure everything's okay for the ghouls.
This was way too long but I have so many ideas. I could probably do this with a few other companions swapping. I do want to expand on Hancock's story.
#FOCCA2020 May 12: Daily Routine (Preston Garvey)
"Smh Preston is so annoying I mean what does he even do-"
HIS BEST.
On this account we stan a hard working man. Honestly, I really love Preston. If you look past the games fault of shoving the settlement quests onto him, he's actually a really lovable character. Definitely in my top 5.
So here’s something for FOCCA 2020...
May 12 - Daily Routine or Nights
The courser approached. Every move of theirs was measured and planned. The step over the fallen branch, the lifting of their chin, the narrowing of their eyes. In their hands was a rifle, Institute made, and it glowed with a blue light that illuminated the dark mist that surrounded them.
DiMA took a step backward, hands held out before him. “Please,” he said. The word was choked and barely audible. “Stop. Listen to me.”
The courser gave no indication that they heard him. Or perhaps they didn’t care. Their gaze went past him to the person he was desperately trying to hide.
DiMA stretched out one arm to the side, fear twisting his features. No, please, he thought to himself. Not him. Do not take him.
#FOCCA2020 May 10: Post-game life. (Shaun)
Dammit! Two minutes late. I went through so many sketches for this. Also my first time drawing a dog so yeah. I hope it's turned out good.
Man, Bethesda really underused Synth Shaun. Ive been wanting to find my son for the entire game and when I get him (albeit in synth form) he kind of just stands there and makes things. At least let me hug my child Todd!
May 7 - Hobbies OR Flower
@courier-sux had the awesome idea to pick up on Carla being called a cactus flower for this prompt (and wrote a lovely oneshot here) and I had to run with it. Girl got her hands on a camera and snapped a selfie for Boone while he was deployed.
I like to imagine her as having very strong 60s vibes. Beautiful in an easy and effortless way. She’s a very intimidating character to draw, since interpretations of her differ.
