Carryout Carol
There is a lady new in town, probably about 70. She just came here from Hawaii. She orders carryout everyday, sometimes twice. She calls herself carryout Carol. She hugs every server and tells us were awesome and take such good care of her, the she runs to our kitchen doors to yell at the cooks that they are fantastic and she appriciates them. She's so upbeat and we all love her.
Regulars are the best
I've worked at the same restaurant building for the past three restaurants that were there. The same man has frequented the building for a few years and always tips well and leaves positive notes for all the servers he sees, and always brags on his server to our boss, and sometimes servers he sees doing well at other tables. Always good seeing him on a bad day.
Carhop Creeper
So I worked at sonic, so idk if I'm pushing it my saying I was a waitress. But I had good and bad experiences. Usually the older people were super sweet. But yea when I was 17 there was a 27 year old man that kept trying to get my number & makes sexual comments.
The Usual people
Overall, women who came in groups were rude and selfish and didn't tip. Men who came in groups talked more and enjoyed the company of a woman, even briefly with their waitress. Families mostly ignored. Couples usually tipped well and either ignored me completely, only the man talked to me, or both engaged in conversation. Rarely did a woman talk to me without a man around.
When managers do their jobs
At Cowan's, there was this couple who came in regularly, but I was not allowed to serve them because the man was a registered sex offender and the woman was on many many drugs. It was always the oldest waitress who served them and the younger girls had to stay out of sight.
It’s Not All Bad
I was working a Monday lunch shift, and it was crazy slow. I think I had about four tables the entire time I was there. I can usually make around 40-50 during a lunch shift, but today it was looking like I might not even break 20. After I was cut my last table hung around for a while. I joked to one of my friends that I think I'm cursed because my last tables always camp out forever. Eventually they left and I went to clean the table and they had left me $20 on a $40 tab, which had basically doubled my tips for the day. It was just a nice thing for them to do and it brightened my day.
Waiters and waitresses might be able to boost their take-home pay with a few tricks gleaned from psychological journals, Claudia Hammond says.
