That one time the guest didn’t expect me to get them what they asked... then joked about it
I haven’t served since covid started, but this happened to me this year and it annoyed me again.
It was a pretty steady Sunday brunch. I get a four-top, and they all order coffees. One person wants half and half, one person wants milk, one guy asks for both for some reason. Whatever, it’s an annoying request but obviously not a big deal to do. I bring out their coffees and creamers and set both the milk and half-and-half containers in front of the guy. He says, “What, you actually brought both?? I was just kidding, I didn’t actually want both!! Hahaha!” Except he made no indication he was “just kidding” or only wanted one of them. I stared at him and wondered why the fuck he thought it was funny that he wasted my time before taking their orders.
