Yeah I felt similarly about it after watching s1 - it feels very old school fannish because of the tropes and the episodic nature of the show.
Yeah, procedurals tend to be episodic, but because this one has the supernatural storylines too, plus with the focus on the partnership, it ends up feeling more like one of the old cop shows than a regular procedural. I kept having flashbacks to The Sentinel!
(Though I wish it was less of a procedural, really; my favorite eps are those that the case is secondary to the character stuff. I also hope it lasts long enough for them to run out of ideas and start doing more of the classic cop-show h/c tropes. Like, they really need a “buried alive” episode! And kidnapping. Could definitely do with a spot of kidnapping...)

...now suddenly I’m wondering about the giffing of actual old-school shows. I can so easily imagine the giffing of “Sentinel Too,” it’s almost hard to remember that it wasn’t everywhere at the time...
