Logan noticed some of his students yawning behind their hands, blinking sluggishly. The teacher hid a smirk, it was Friday afternoon and half the school (teachers included) was ready for the weekend, it was so hot at the moment, everyone was just exhausted and sick of the heat. He returned to his speech on the various ways author’s used speech marks. Virgil was doodling in the corner of his book, the bags under his eyes looked darker than usual and Logan didn’t think it was because of particularly intense makeup application.
“Can anyone explain the difference between-” Logan was interrupted by a knock on the door, he sighed and leaned on his desk, he just wanted to leave. “Come in!” He called.
Patton opened the door and Logan broke into a bright smile. “Patton, hello Love.”
Patton adjusted his hold on the one year old in his arms and crossed the room to Logan’s desk. “Hi Honey.”
Logan kissed his boyfriend and ignored the shocked stares his students were giving them, they were all tired, it didn’t matter. Dee wriggled and made grabby hands towards his dad. “Dada!”
The students giggled and cooed over the one year old. Logan lifted his son into his arms. “Hey Honey-Dee, Dada’s gotta finish this work but I’ll play with you in a moment, alright?”
Patton kissed the toddler’s head. “Let’s let Dada work, okay? C’mon Honeybunch.”
Dee reluctantly went back to Patton, pouting. Logan returned to his lesson but was quickly interupted by a squeal. “’Irgil!”
Dee grinned and pointed to Virgil, who was at the front to the side, in the corner of the room, blushing. He waved at the toddler and adjusted his hood to fit over his face more.
“‘Irgil!” Dee whined again. “‘Irgil ‘Irgil ‘Irgil!”
Patton sent a panicked look to his boyfriend as Dee became increasingly difficult to hold. Logan sighed and rubbed his eyes behind his glasses. “I’m sorry.” He said to the amused class. “We’ll return to the lesson in a moment, I promise.”
The students didn’t seem too concerned about getting back on track, Dee was pretty entertaining. Logan picked him up and kept a firm hold on him, ignoring the one year old’s wriggling and whinging. He walked over to Virgil’s desk and knelt by it, he sighed and tried to shush his son a little bit. “Sorry Virge, do you think he could sit with you for a bit?”
Virgil held his arms out with a small grin, completely fine with the toddler’s insisting. “Pass.”
Dee broke into a giggling fit as he was set in Virgil’s arms. “’Irgil!” He cheered.
Virgil kissed his head and held him tightly. “Hey Dee-dee.”
Roman shifted his chair closer and leaned his chin on Virgil’s shoulder to make faces at the toddler. Logan hurriedly thanked them and tried to continue his lesson. Patton pulled a chair out by the others and sat near Virgil and Roman, switching his attention between Logan and Dee.
Finally, the school day was over and he dismissed the class, unfortunately many of his students decided to pester Patton with questions. Logan packed his things away hastily and came to his boyfriend’s rescue.
Patton was happy to talk to the kids, he smiled and laughed, keeping one eye on Dee to make sure Virgil wasn’t struggling.
“- is Mr Croft your boyfriend?”
Patton blushed slightly and looked up at Logan as the teacher walked over to them, he sat on the edge of Virgil’s desk. “Is that really an appropriate question?” He asked.
Patton rolled his eyes playfully. “Come on Lolo.”
The small clump of students all faced their teacher, questioning looks across all of their faces.
Logan sighed. “Yes, Patton’s my boyfriend.”
They giggled and started to leave, saying goodbye and thanks to Logan as they left. Virgil stood up and kissed Dee’s cheek. “I have to go Dee.”
Roman gently booped his nose. “We’ll see you later Dee!”
Logan took his son back. “Thanks Vee.”
“Anytime.” Virgil shrugged his bag on. “If you’ll excuse me, I have ravens to train and crows to feed.”
Roman snorted but took Virgil’s hand anyway. “Back to the lair then, thanks Lo.”
“Mr Croft.” Logan corrected.
“Lo.” Roman and Virgil repeated, walking out of the classroom.
Logan adjusted the toddler on his hip. “Okay, I’m ready.”
Patton smiled. “Then let’s go.”

“I love you.”
Patton looked over, slightly puzzled. “I love you too Lolo.” He leaned in for a kiss. “Is there a reason for the sudden need to tell me?” He giggled.
Logan shrugged and settled back onto the grass of the little park. “Just thinking about our first date.”
“Oh,” Patton smiled and moved his legs onto Logan’s lap, resting his head on his shoulder, “that’s sweet.”
“Dada!” Dee squealed. “Dada!”
Logan glanced over and chuckled as Dee toddled hastily over to them and stumbled into Patton’s lap, he scrambled to get to Logan and presented his dad with a slightly squashed yellow daisy. “Flo’er!” He grinned, looking pleased with himself.
“It’s beautiful Honey-Dee, thank you.” Logan kissed his son’s cheek and gently took the flower to tuck it behind his ear.
Dee beamed and Patton pecked his boyfriend’s temple. “You look handsome.” He smiled. “You should wear flowers more often.”
Logan flushed slightly and pressed his nose into Dee’s soft hair. Patton leaned his head on his boyfriend’s shoulder and they watched the clouds move, the sun started to set and Logan noticed his son let out a big yawn.
Dee closed his eyes and curled up against his dad as sleep took over, Logan and Patton left the park and walked home, careful not to disturb the baby.
They tucked him into his crib and turned on the nightlight, Patton grabbed a monitor from the shelf and set it on the coffee table while Logan made them dinner. The couple finished their meal and turned the TV on, Patton rested his head on Logan’s shoulder and smiled as his boyfriend draped a blanket over him, they stayed on the couch for as long as they could before going to bed.
Logan lay awake under the covers, Patton cuddled into his side, fast asleep and smiling softly into Logan’s chest.
How had he gotten so lucky?
