My 3 weeks on FolksVagn

Hi, My name is Gargi.. I basically relocated to Delhi from Calcutta, a couple of months back. I was having a car pool with my ex-colleagues to start with but the timings were not matching somehow. I was under lots of stress as there was no permanent solution to my travel from Home to Office & back.. then one fine evening I came to know about Folksvagn thru Facebook. The concept was worth a million dollar due its applicability & utmost flexibility. I tried registering it and also got support from the company people helping me to invite & fix my ride with other members. Now I have completed almost 3 weeks on Folksvagn & I must say that it has eased my stress quite a bit… I also appreciate the concept of no cash transactions during the ride, which makes this concept worth emulating. Thanks to Sameer who created this concept, to people like me who take rides and most importantly the car owners who drive. Kudos guys for supporting this great concept.. Thanks

3 months on FolksVagn now

3 months on and now I can say with confidence that carpooling through Folksvagn is “idea of millennium”. Today in urban lifestyle we have everything that makes a “condominium” lifestyle still we lack time to enjoy the same. Means, I can have luxury car but what’s fun if I crawl it in traffic every day! Also if nobody appreciate its luxury ride and feature how can I realize its a luxury car! The answer could be - share it……….

Initially I had common apprehensions of time flexibility, sharing with unknown persons etc. but now I realized that these are the incentive of Folksvagn. It’s completely flexible “with more than you require” options and meeting new faces regularly means Live Facebook! Chats, share, jokes, evening samosas, discussions (virtually on any subject) ……………….

Most important it’s a huge stress buster…..once you are in a car with your friends then the idiots of traffic are simply ignored. Instead you start loving traffic coz you get more time with your friends(In long term this benefit may disappear since more and more people on Folksvagn means less traffic K)

Beyond all personal benefits, I feel proud when I see how much I contributed towards greener Earth….though unintentionally

FolksVagn - An Empowering System

Systems have life, they are living entities that influence us, our mind and lifestyles on a daily basis.And we psychologists are interested in studying systems as we do people, organisations,institutions, to determine their health.

I consider an empowering system, a healthy system. FolksVagn is an  open, transparent, flexible, user friendly system. My ride through Gurgaon's terrible traffic is now pleasant !!

I have been driving to Delhi from Gurgaon daily for almost a year now. The traffic during peak hours is a killer, by the time I get to work, I am totally drained. FolksVagn has been a refreshing change in my daily routine. I no longer travel alone on my way to work, instead I now get to share my ride with wonderful people that stay in the vicinity who I would've never met because my work doesn't allow any scope for socializing  A 40 minute ride through Gurgaon's terrible traffic turns into a pleasant conversational ride.

Car-pooling has been heard of many a times however, not much has been done to make it into a streamlined process that does all the math for you. Starting from calculating the distance between pick-ups and drops to adjustment of cash, all is taken care of by FV's online system. Kudos for that!

I am eagerly waiting for the time when there'll be less traffic jams, easy-to-find parking spots and 2-3 travelers in each car and a lot of mental peace.

I hate car pooling... Oops!!! I hateD car pooling earlier. One fine Sunday, I noticed a pamphlet with my newspaper regarding FolksVagn. So here's some simple mathematics to get this all into perspective:

Avg home-office-home distance: 40 kms

Avg. per km cost of your car (when you drive alone): Rs. 6

Your annual fuel cost (22 days/month, 12 months): Rs. 63,360/-

  If you take 1 passenger with you at FV, you get (per km): Rs.2.5/km

Just by this, your cost goes down by 58.3%

You save Rs. 36,960 in a year.

  If you take 2 passengers with you at FV, you get (per km): Rs.5.5/km

Here, your cost goes down by 83.33%

And you save Rs. 58,080/- in a year

  And if you somehow manage to take 3 people with you, you won’t spend anything and you’ll get Rs. 26,400 additionally. That’s a saving of Rs. 89,760 in a year.

Not just this. A car on an average produces 1.5 tonnes of CO2 in a year. An average tree takes appx. 65 years to sequester that much of CO2.

So, you’ll reduce as much CO2 as 65 trees would in a year.

How considerate of you, thanks for asking! We get so many queries on the basic do's 'n' don'ts while sharing rides, that we thought we'll share some learning here. Though ride-sharing is a new concept, but sharing comes naturally to all of us. So these would sound pretty basic.

1.   Respect the driver's time and vehicle (food, makeup, odors, phone conversations etc could be finished before you get into the car).

2.   Drivers, it is your car, but please refrain from cruel and unusual punishment of passengers (delays, loud music/radio, a dirty car, etc).

3.   Conversations! Not everyone is looking to talk early in the morning. Drivers have the prerogative to start a conversation, while passengers generally keep quiet until then.

Treat people like you want to be treated. We're here to make the community better!!
