re: deafblind people it is actually staggering the dehumanization and control that has historically been exerted against them. did you know that for like 90% of deafblind history, deafblind people weren't allowed to touch each other and could only communicate through an assigned "support person"? complete linguistic and cultural isolation. we watched an old video literally instructing these "support people" to keep deafblind students away from each other for their 'benefit'. and i forget when- i wanna say the 1950 or 60s?- at a deafblind school, one student connected with other students and communicated freely when the head of the school went away, and when he got back, he punished her by making her unable to touch anyone for 5 years. ill see if i can find the article discussing her. monstrous stuff happens to deafblind people all the time (protactile was invented in the 2000s/2010s. their defined community is relatively young!) and seeing people say hellen keller was faking it or wasn't real only serves to support those kinds of agendas
