Three Foolish Monkeys
Open your eyes. Do not cover them. Behold the evil that is afoot! You will miss all the beautiful things in life also, if you do so. Uncover your ears. Listen and hear the cries of the downtrodden and the lies being spoken! You will not hear the songs of comfort and the truths proclaimed, if you do. Open your mouth. Speak up! In firmness and in truth! Call a spade a spade! But do not withhold words of affirmation where it is due. Let your heart be soft! Let your heart be broken! For only out of that vulnerability can it grow!
Evil triumph if no counter actions are taken. Actions cannot be taken, unless people first care. People cannot care if they do not know. They cannot know if they keep their senses are closed.
We can never live our life fully to its potential if we shrink from either good or evil. Drink deeply then, from the cup tinged with joys and sorrows, anger and fear. We cannot always look too wise in others’ eyes nor in our own. Those who castrate themselves will never taste rapture.
