Halldis looked up, brows furrowing at the sight of the Breton. She scooted over, making room for him on the bench, “I know the feeling. Do...D-Do want to sit? Or are you ill? I’ll walk to you to the temple if you’d like...”

Halldis looked up for a moment, face reddening ever so slightly, then turned her attention back to the instrument. Somehow she doubted the merchant would appreciate her playing with his wares, but it had bee so long since she’d even held a lute, she was strangely curious to see if she even remembered anything.

However, the man was making her nervous. She had not been prepared for an audience, even if it was only a single person. She cleared her throat, and shook her head, “Ah...n-no....I was just looking. It’s pretty, don’t you think?”

The Breton gave an uncomfortable laugh and shook his head, fingers pulling at the edges of his sleeves nervously. He cleared his throat and shook his head again, opening his mouth to respond, but not being able to. After a moment, it would seem he finally found his voice when he cleared his throat another time.

“Ahem, uh... no. I’m not in love with miss Brielle. We’re just friends. I care about her, and um... and maybe I love her, but I’m not in love with her. That’d just... that’d be foolish...”

Artie trailed off, but continued with an additional thought, ‘she’d never be interested in me like that anyway.’
