Game 33)
West Brom 0-0 Liverpool - The Hawthorns
Scorers: N/A
Man of the Match: Dejan Lovren
Report: After a disappointing exit in the FA Cup at Wembley to Aston Villa, Liverpool were hosted by a struggling West Brom side, who although look safe from relegation, have been far from convincing in the last few weeks. Liverpool went in as heavy favourites, although not free from their own troubles, their inability to score goals and a leaky defence, headlined by contract talks for next season. Balotelli made only his 2nd start since November, and as a result very little penetration into the final third was made all game. Liverpool dominated possession but couldn’t sneak through a resolute Baggies’ defence, managing only 5 shots on target all match. A lack-luster scoreless first half was shaded by an improved second with more chances, the best of which falling to Jordan Henderson who was very unfortunate to fire his open goal chance, directly at Boaz Myhill. The Baggies had a few chances of their own, thwated again by Mignolet who earnt his 13th clean sheet this season, a league equaling best, a fantastic achievement, considering his early season form and criticism. A scoreless draw was highlighted by the sensational form of Dejan Lovren who was impenetrable at the back for Liverpool, who couldn’t find the attacking firepower in the front third.
