Value me soriku for the drabble thing (if you are feeling like it) Love your writing! 🌸
“What’s this about?” Riku asked, scoff a confused chuckle as he situated himself on the steps of the Mysterious Tower. Sora had dragged him out as soon as Donald and Goofy were distracted by cake and tea, Lea and the others discussing missions and training, telling Riku that he had something to tell him – something important.
Sora adjusted too, moving belts and metal from under his butt against the hard concrete. “I uhh…” Sora looked up at the purple sky, biting his lip nervously. “Remember how I said I could hear you the whole time? In my dream?” Sora started, feigning confidence.
“Yeah…” Riku said, hesitant. It was still fresh on everyone’s mind. Sora could feel his gaze.
“There was… there was something else,” Sora continued, drumming his fingers against the step, “I kept chasing the dream, even though you told me not to– because I knew you’d save me.”
Riku made a noise of disbelief. “Sora, that was, dangerous, you know?” He said it without anger, without even sadness – Sora looked at him, and Riku looked actually a little… happy to hear it.
It encouraged him. “Haha, yeah, but,” he turned toward Riku, their fingers brushing on the concrete, “You make me feel so …safe. Even when I was… falling asleep, I… I realized I had to wake up again, because I wanted to see you again,” Sora said. His cheeks were hot, but it was okay; Riku’s were, too. “It made me realize– well, actually, I think I’ve known for awhile now that…” Oh no, he was getting nervous, “you’re my best friend and no matter what, I want to be by… your side.”
Riku’s eyes were wide in shock, watching with those crystal aqua eyes that always pierced right through him. He broke his stare to look into his lap, chuckling, “Sora, you make it sound like you like me or something.”
Sora chuckled nervously back, rubbing the back of his head. “That’s kinda what… I’m saying?” Before Riku could even respond, Sora rushed to continue, “But like, I know we can’t stay together – there’s something I need to do and then I know Master Yen Sid has a mission for you but–“
Riku actually laughed, interrupting him, “Slow down, Sora! You just…” He exhaled like he couldn’t believe it. “You just confessed and now you’re talking about missions.”
“Yeah ‘cause I,” Sora laughed sheepishly, “I wanted to tell you, before I left.”
With the softest grin Sora had ever seen grace Riku’s beautiful face, he pulled Sora into his shoulder – an embrace with a kiss to his forehead, small and quick, but an answer that made Sora swoon. With a pounding heart, Sora just kinda… let it happen and grinned too wide. Riku replied, “Then, don’t go where I can’t follow.”
Sora pulled back, cheeky grin. “Never. I don’t think there’s anywhere you can’t go, Riku.”
Riku considered that for a moment, then pointed at Sora’s chest, right at the crown necklace and his heart. “We’re always together here. Our hearts are in tune, remember?”
Sora nodded, so glad he got the words out. Now he knew he could face whatever challenges ahead without regret. Riku stood then, held out his hand for Sora to take. With glee, and remembering a fateful night from years ago now, Sora took it. “You… said you have to go?” Riku said, accepting.
“Yeah, I– I’ll go get Donald and Goofy, I wanna say goodbye.” He turned to rush inside, but last minute had a better idea, and kissed Riku’s cheek before he went in. Riku watched him run off, fingers on his cheek with a blissful smile.
Sora took the steps two at a time, as high as the stairs took him.
