Poet kirwynsutherland performing one of my favorite pieces. This always brings me to tears
You say your God is all for equality, Yet you've created 'Him' into the image of you. Never was mention of God's appearance made. Always hidden behind burning bush, or messenger angel, But when you depict your God it is always male, white. This is why when your daughter brings home a woman you call her sinner, because she fails to love in 'His' image. Or when she brings home a dark skinned boy, she is covered in sin; this is not what your God intended. Your child is perfect until assumed son renounces masculinity for something softer, asking you to respect her femininity. The God in your texts labels boy holy. How can you tell me that your God is an equality activist when he resembles the Republican candidate? When I see 'Him' all I hear is the way they tried to take away my rights, how I deserved my rape, or how my love is abomination. Somedays I hear gun shots piercing young black bodies, yet these 'innocent' white cops cannot be blamed for their sin. You preach the text, but ignore its foundations for the benefit of those more like you. Does God have rules on double standard? If your God is so equal why does it resemble the oppressor, and not the oppressed? How can you tell me that 'He' will save me from my plight when he looks exactly like those who caused it?
Reading Scripture To Make Sense of Murder
Today I didn't stand for the pledge. My teacher pressured everyone into standing and I remained seated. She turned to me yelling and I still refused to stand, stating that I have the right not to stand. She claimed I had to stand but not recite the pledge. Again I repeated "I have the right not to stand." She threatened me by saying she'd send me to the vice principal, but of course she didn't. There is no liberty and justice for all, and as long as there isn't I will not stand or recite the pledge.
