character/s: tyl!hibari kyoya, reader-insert (gender-neutral)

warnings: n/a
prompt: kyoya’s birthday
The air was still, but nice. It was soothing, though there was very little wind. It was nice and warm on the skin, but not overbearing, and it was easy to relax.
You didn’t move when you heard footsteps, closer and closer.
“So, how have you been today?”
Kyoya stared down at you for a moment before sighing, his shoulders slumping. “It’s been annoying.”
You smiled in amusement at this. “So you haven’t enjoyed your day with the others? I wonder what they could’ve done.”
He moved his gaze from you and out to the garden instead, taking in a slow breath. “They were a bother.”
“That’s mean.”
“Are you comfortable?”
You actually looked up at him at this, but shuffled around in your spot to make sure you were. With an inviting smile you pet your lap. “Sure am.”
He quietly got down on the engawa beside you, shifting and slowly laying his head down in your lap. He closed his eyes the moment your fingers carded through his hair.
“Did the birthday boy not have fun? That’s a shame.”
He huffed at your stifled laugh. “Birthdays aren’t particularly that exciting. They’re bothersome and annoying.”
“Surely they weren’t that bad,” you mused, rubbing your fingers into his scalp, watching his face fondly. “They mean well.”
He was quiet for a moment, contemplating this.
“I didn’t say it was bad. I said they were annoying.”
With a pleased hum at his response, you looked back out into the garden, admiring the plants that decorated the area.
