Angalkingax by Laresa Syverson
wether by sea or air,
I thought of his return
cormorant coming close
survey burial mounds
refuge in the edges
abundant Aleutian wind
sweet and fox spray
fish entrails
deep-seated spirit
whether by return,
I thought of his air or sea
finding ourselves
barren of breath for familiar words
teal glass and unstable knees
come back in endless green
howl in the cove
proceed on top of currents
and quiver in the grasses
whether by sea
I thought of his return or air
how cold grips at the gut like laughter
I imagine him there
balanced between humor and hurt
