Not An Ox
he is no ox though all his dreams are how to carry this burden how to keep pulling
he is no ox nor yet a bull big though he is strong capable solid
he sees the single star peeking out between the clouds
learns the languages of the small and frightened to be their safe place lets them stay under the bed if that's what they really really want
he sings to a little dog who adores him gazes up at him her heart in her eyes he makes his voice as tiny and gentle as such an instrument can be
He is the biggest of the dwarves the smallest of the giants
an iridescent dragonfly fierce and beautiful a lark ascending across the pink morning sky a bright-eyed daisy nodding in the breeze
not a beast of burden but Pegasus suited to Cinderella's pumpkin coach never to be harnessed to a plough
look closer
see who he really is
