“desperately” – here’s just a snippet that I should probably be putting into the master doc, since I immediately thought of a thing that I needed to write anyway. also I will try to not make this TOO spoilery, so have some contextless hurt/comfort I guess

Taako is slipping in and out of consciousness as they step through the tear into the upstairs of the manor. Kravitz holds him close, following Merle down the quiet hallway, presumably to find an empty guest room. They were almost too late, he keeps thinking, keeps seeing them all under attack, and Taako–

Death is sacred to Kravitz, more than most things, and even unexpected death is important and even necessary. And Taako– well, his work isn’t so dangerous anymore, but there’s always a certain chance in adventuring….

And yet. He thanks, perhaps not Herself, perhaps instead Taako’s patron Lady Fate that Merle was with them, that he arrived at the right moment, that they’re here, now, and Taako isn’t dead, Taako isn’t going to die.

He lays him down on a guest bed; the one they usually stay in on summer vacations. Feels odd to have it as a bed for recuperating instead.

One of His Queen’s gifts is to give a bit of healing to those who are not yet fated to die, and it’s with the most desperate and tender kiss that he whispers those words against Taako’s forehead.
