Huzzzah! Ramps season is fully upon us in North America. So, enjoy but please remember to forage responsibly. At our place, we made one planting of one patch of about 6 ramps. Now, 7 years later we have a half dozen patches of dozens of ramps. And I've made a few dishes with ramps every single year from our patch. As we've discussed in this group before, under super ideal circumstances they still reproduce very slowly. It probably will take from 5-7 years for a plant to grow from seed. Replacement rates may be as long as 10-15 years! It's best to take only the above-ground portions. In a healthy stand, especially one you own and manage, it's probably ok to take whole bulbs, but think regeneratively, a few here a few there. Thick clumps may actually be improved by thinning. And remember A-holes from out of state are coming here to pirate our ramps to meet their market demand back home, so be like kitty: #ramps #foraging #foragingramps #responsibleforaging #heprotec https://www.instagram.com/p/BwdZA33ABJ2/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=11fi7vkyouzxz
