On the matter of the forbidden archives (1/3)

[AFTER HIS STRANGE DISCUSSION WITH PALPATINE AT THE OPERA, ANAKIN HAS BEEN THINKING OF NOTHING ELSE BUT SAVING PADME FROM FUTURE DEATH. TEASED IN HIS MIND BY PALPATINE, ANAKIN SEEKS FIRST JEDI KNOWLEDGE - FINDING NOTHING BUT FAMILIAR, BUT FINITE FORCE HEALING. HE IS DISCREETLY SEEKING ACCESS TO THE FORBIDDEN ARCHIVES TO PROVE PALPATINE’S LEAD WHEN THE LIBRARIAN JOCASTA NU STARTLES HIM]
“Is there something I can help you with, Skywalker?”
“Oh. I…Hello. I was…wondering if there were any records. On …”
“On?”
“Do I have to say?”
“Only if you want my help finding it. And not for nothing, I am the master of the library.”
“…keeping someone from dying.”
“Ah yes, force healing is a well researched topic, I can show you to -“
“No. No. I mean, it seemed incomplete”
“I assure you, our records are anything but.”
“It’s just…I was studying…and I…”
“Has the war been weighing on you, my boy?”
“Yes, yes…I…was interested in…, if the war has taught me anytbing it’s…Is there a way to bring someone back from death? Or better yet, to keep them alive? Surely there’s a way.”
“All things go, child. Not even the most powerful force healers can prevent that.”
“And I can’t even do basic healing.”
“It isn’t a mark against you, my boy, not all talents are universal - even The Chosen One can only do so much.”
“….That’s the problem.”
“No, it - Is something wrong? You look tired.”
“No. Nothing. It’s just…I’ve learned how neccessary a good healer is. But my question is, it seems…limited.”
“Healing can only do so much, force or no.”
“I thought the force can do anything.”
“It can, but we cannot. We are but imperfect conduits for The Force.”
“But In theory?”
“Im a librarian, not a mystic, I’m afraid.”
“Hm. But I’ve been told…there are old ways, forgotten ways. It’s essential to my research to consult all avilable sources.”
“You have access to everything relevant to you.”
“What about there? I know there’s more you’re holding out on me.”
“The Forbidden Archives? only masters can access it. It houses the most dangerous information, dark side artifacts…things even masters dare not dally with”
“I’m on the council.”
“But not a master.”
“I might as well be.”
“Even so, my answer is the same. Only Jedi masters are capable of wisely dealing with what’s inside.”
“Dooku was a Jedi master, and look where that got him.”
“…So I’ve heard.“
“…”
“…”
“I mean…what I’m saying is, the dark side isn’t a threat to me. I’ll be a master soon enough, you might as well let me in now.”
“If even Dooku, the best of us - could fall without…without any of us being able to help him, then I think that shows our standards should be higher not lower.”
“I don’t think you’re listening. I have a right to be in there. Haven’t I done enough for the Jedi? It’d be unwise to get on the wrong side of the chosen one, I think.”
“My word is final, as a master of the Jedi and this library , my boy.”
“I’m not a boy.”
“A boy is what you are if you continue to speak to me in my archives as such.”
“…”
“Wisdom is never rushed, nor cheaply bought, young Skywalker. You’ve a bright future ahead of you, one you ought to consider. I’m sorry, I wish you luck in your research, but The rules are the rules.”
“…Dogma, more like.”
“What was that?”
“Forget it.”

Another voice of the Galaxy!
This one stemmed from wanting to explore what Anakin might do to pursue the leads Palaptine gave him before falling - while Palpatine is confident it’s not something he’d learn from a Jedi, if even just desperation I’d expect Anakin to consult his resources as a Jedi immediatley.
We know about force healing - and that’s something Anakin would likely research, but very quickly find it wanting as it becomes clear that it cannot keep someone indefinitley alive / immortal / the revival aspect is something I’d think would be unknown or kept in forbidden archives. But even if it wasn’t, I don’t think Anakin would settle for anytbing like that.
The next step from there is the forbidden archives - which adds another wound to Anakin not becoming master and adds a heightened pressure to his role in the Jedi. Of course, a lot of it is pride and he never comes clean to get help , but it’s another stressor for him / a temptation to gain more power / rift with the Jedi.
Thought it would be a good use to see him interact with Jocasta, both to get a little bit about Dooku’s death - cuz they TOTALLY had a padawan romance - and give Anakin someone who he sees as a softer target in the Jedi he can let some of his stress out on , who then stands firm and rebutts him, putting him in his place to ruminate even more, and starting to internalize what Palaptine told him about the Jedi.
I’ll be following this particular beat up with an obi wan and Anakin one too!
