just saw someone say forbidden fruits "isnt even a little bit gay" ??? lili reinhart did not make sure her acrylics were short on her index and middle fingers for the entirety of filming that movie for you to say things like that.

As much as i wish parts of it had been handled differently, Forbidden Fruits is a very timely satire. Cultural feminism and misandry are very in vogue right now. It's interesting to see people think this movie is about girl power or sticking it to the patriarchy and killing abusive men when, textually, the only dangers the women in this movie actively face come from each other. Abusive men are *talked* about. Trauma is discussed. But no man appearing in this movie is seen to be a killer or abuser. The women only hurt each other. Very timely satire.
I loved how Pum said in confession "i dont know if i buy all this stuff, women supporting women..." not "i dont know if i buy into magic." No, she goes immediately to the myth of feminine solidarity. And like. SO. REAL. Honestly, this flick SKEWERS cultural feminism and I KNOW there are people who probably earnestly find it aspirational. Like this is american psycho for skinny white girls.
Such a weird choice for a flick that is essentially a slow burn psychological thriller the whole way through to suddenly kill off its two best developed characters ichi the killer style real quick and then expect the vague narrative stakes of the two less developed characters to still land in the last ten minutes
