Subversive sense of humour, compassion, outrage and rebellion. Hello #shameonyoutrump ! Faces and postures don’t lie, however hard you colour up. During the 1970s Boris Mikhailov started hand-colouring b/w photos, mimicking the way Soviet propaganda tried to brighten people’s every day dull, grey life. On one photo he added in handwriting: ‘Everything here is so grey in grey, there isn’t even anything to colour.’ Boris Mikhailov’s first retrospective exhibition is part of the ‘The Forbidden Image’ @PinchukArtCentre, curated by Bjorn Geldhof in cooperation with MartinKiefer (Musée du Louvre) and Alicia Knock (Centre Pompidou). #forbiddenimage #pinchukartcentre #borismikhailov #contemporaryart #contemporaryphotography #documentaryphotography #ukraine #kiev #kyiv #shameonyoutrump @bgeldhof @martinkiefer @alicia.knock (at PinchukArtCentre) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6HCnKUlbIR/?igshid=1krnmonf78h44

Subversive hand-colouring, mimicking and mocking Soviet propaganda (Hello Trump!) Sneaky street photography, staged photos, jokes, jibes, blends of all: the Pinchuk Art Centre’s Boris Mikailov retrospective show covers all of the artist’s styles and strategies. And what connects all, is his sense of humour, compassion, outrage and rebellion. The solo show is embedded into ‘The Forbidden Image’, curated by Bjorn Geldhof in cooperation with MartinKiefer (Musée du Louvre) and Alicia Knock (Centre Pompidou). #forbiddenimage #pinchukartcentre #borismikhailov #contemporaryart #contemporaryphotography #documentaryphotography #ukraine #kiev #kyiv #shameonyoutrump @bgeldhof @martinkiefer @alicia.knock (at PinchukArtCentre) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6G9MvWFhLM/?igshid=1nbcnyqj5eix3
Today, the salt lake at Слов'янський курорт (Slavjanski Kurort meaning: Spa) is as popular as 30 years ago, the furnishing adapted to match contemporary style: the concrete sewage pipes are gone, replaced by deckchairs and straw parasols. #forbiddenimage #pinchukartcentre #Boris Mikhailov #galerie_suzanne_tarasieve #contemporaryart #contemporaryphotography #documentaryphotography #ukraine #kiev #kyiv #saltlake #blackandwhite (at PinchukArtCentre) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6CMM1blY_i/?igshid=1vnq89mrwlgmv
