Hello everyone. I’ve recently been introduced to a social issue that I feel is being decidedly overlooked by society. I feel this issue is both cruel and inhumane, and I feel the practice should be stopped by any means necessary ASAP. This issue is the forced evolution of Pokemon.

To help inform and educate the general public, I've put together an FAQ about forced evolution. What is the forced evolution of Pokemon?

The forced evolution of Pokemon is a practice where a Pokemon's guardian uses unnatural methods to force a Pokemon to evolve when it's not ready. Forcing a Pokemon to evolve before the natural cycle occurs can lead to a multitude of hazards, such as the Pokemon not learning the fundamental skillset required of it's new body, and thus, being left vulnerable in all facets.

What unnatural methods are used to forcibly evolve Pokemon?

The most common way to forcibly evolve a Pokemon is to use an evolutionary stone. Evolutionary stones are rare to find, but make no mistake about it, they are circulating. Another unnatural way to forcibly evolve a Pokemon is to trade the Pokemon.

Do Pokemon even understand that they're evolving?

Pokemon are very aware of evolution. The conflict of forced evolution has been around for many years, but first gained media interest when Vermillion City gym leader Lt. Surge used a forcibly evolved Raichu in his battle against famed trainer Ash Ketchum. Surge used an evolutionary stone to evolve a Pikachu to a Raichu. Via various interviews and documentaries, Ash Ketchum is quoted as saying he asked his Pikachu if it wanted to use an evolutionary stone to evolve, to which the Pikachu refused. The Pikachu later went on to defeat the forcibly evolved Raichu after the Raichu was not fundamentally sound or prepared enough in it's new state to defend itself.

And even if Pokemon were not aware of they're forced evolution, does that make the situation okay? Pokemon are creatures, just like dogs, cats, llamas and humans. They deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

Is evolution wrong?

As a natural process, the evolution of a Pokemon is one of the most beautiful things a creature can do. Some trainers have attributed a Pokemon's evolution to that of seeing a child grow up before their eyes. It completes the circle of life.

However, to deprive a Pokemon (or a child) of the right to grow up at their own pace is a crime against humanity. We hear the tragic stories of Hollywood actors who were forced to grow up too early in their childhood, and never could recover from the pressure. This situation is no different from that: a Pokemon needs time to grow and develop.

Is it legal to use forcibly evolved Pokemon in competition?

Currently, there are no rules against using a forcibly evolved Pokemon, as the entire debate is one that is seen as an issue of morality. But just because there are no rules against it doesn't mean it's right.

In 1998, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa demolished the MLB single-season home run record. It was later revealed that both McGwire and Sosa had used performance-enhancing drugs in their pursuit of the record. Today, both players have been shunned from the baseball community and are still not members of the Baseball Hall of Fame, even though there were no rules against the use of steroids and performance enhancing drugs that season.

You can choose to think of forcibly evolved Pokemon in the same light, although we recognize there are sizable differences in the cases of McGwire/Sosa and Pokemon, the biggest being that McGwire and Sosa made a choice to use performance enhancing drugs, where as these Pokemon were forced to evolve.
