>Parents decide the only rational reward is a 480hp RWD 5.0L V8 for first car with a reputation for eating crowds because of shitty Road Boat handling and too much power under the pedal while also being really good at sooling its own tyres out from under it
I give it less than 3mo before it's upside down in a ditch, wrapped around a telegraph pole, and/or become a repurposed cop car after being impounded as evidence following this kid flooring the gas at mach bullshit into a crowd of 12 people and killing at least 3 of them
Be me out working on my truck shirtless when some little girl walks up to me from the footpath and asks me if she can ask me a question. Her dad is close on her heels trying to call her back like I'm a rabid dog, but he's also apologising profusely.
I look at her, put down my battery cables, and tell her she just asked me a question, but to hit me with another.
She finds this funny and then she asks what my top surgery scars are from. She seems a bit embarassed by it and like she obviously doesn't want to offend me.
Ohfuck.jpeg
I look at her. Look at dad. Look at her. Look at dad. Look at her. Uhh. Dad. Her. Uhhhh. Dad. Uhhhh. Her.
"Well, I've got a bad heart, so the doctors took my heart out and turn it backwards, and now it works right. But they had to go through my chest obviously, so that's how they did it."
Her eyes go big the moment I start talking. I think the accent surprised her. But instead of commenting on that she let me finish and then went, "THEY TOOK YOUR HEART OUT?!"
"They took my heart out! And now it ticks funny, but at least it ticks, ay."
She looks back over her shoulder. "DAD THEY TOOK HIS HEART OUT."
And dad goes "Wow that's crazy I am so sorry about her ok let's go home-"
But little girl goes "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Referring to me and my battery cables.
And I go "Well, see, cars get old, and batteries get old, so you get alkaline on the batteries. That's all this white stuff."
"Oh I've seen that on batteries before!"
"Yeah, so, the way to get that stuff off is to get some baking soda and some water, and it just eats away at it, like—well, you wanna try? Can she try, dad?"
"I WANNA TRY"
So dad gives her the ok and I tell her to put her foot up on the bumper cuz it's a bit high for her yet, and she climbs on up. And I give her the box of baking soda and go "Just sprinkle some on" and yeah she put on a bit too much but who cares. Then I give her the water bottle "Just spray it" and she gives it a spritz and FWOOSH the baking soda starts eating the alkaline right off the battery.
So I give her my toothbrush and tell her that now she's gotta scrub it, but she's gotta scrub slow cuz if she's too fast she'll flick alkaline everywhere and it's gonna eat through her shirt and burn her. So she's careful with her brushing. And then we washed off the cable and set it back in place and then she thanked me for letting her help and off they went back home and I heard her asking her dad what alkaline even IS on the way back, and why it's in batteries.
So, y'know. Sorry dad for the slew of questions you're gonna hafta answer on the way home. But you're welcome, little girl, for giving you something to bug your dad about.
And thanks for the clean cable.
Blu today my younger co workers gave me the biggest push towards not buying any car past 2015 that has more software than hardware. I'm in my late twenties and they are in their early twenties and the fact they all have similar complaints of the software features distracting/impeding them. Like the internal sensors going off for no clear reason,camera-warning feature going off incorrectly, the automatic brakes feature ACTIVATING RANDOMING!!! BRO WHAT!!! Like the camera-warning problem they were like yah you can turn it off but sometimes is random goes back on. And im like "id rather not have that feature and let's go back to the fact that yalls cars just brake check YOU randomly. WHAT?!?!? BLU WHAT?!?!?
I told them that they just convinced me not to get a car younger than 10 years and that I should buy a toyota hilux if able to at the closest convenience. Like fck i haven't even fix the radio of the 02 CRV i had for 3 years bc I dont want to get distracted by the radio bc people out here are driving crazy.
No literally. I drove a 2024 Nissan Rogue last year and sure while it was comfortable it also wouldn't let me change lanes because it kept mistaking the FUCKEN LINES IN THE ROAD for other vehicles and would automatically steer me straight again. Poor guy behind me was probably wondering why my indicators were on for two miles. Also it automatically brake checked me at everything. Including the shadow of a fucken bird passing overhead. At like 65mph mind you. Thank Christ no one was behind me. Fuck that shit I'm so glad my cars don't have the ability to think. You do what I tell you and if I'm wrong we both die. No airbags. Like men.
10am and back on my bullshit in light of Recent News.
So I'm gonna bitch about Sniper's camper a little (such as things it realistically would and would not have), and explain some things!
Saw some grease monkey new to monkeying slather an ENTIRE DRIVESHAFT in grease because his boss told him to grease the driveshaft. What he was supposed to do was find the zerk fitting on the uni joint and then shove some grease up in that. Nothing against the kid, he didn't know.
But all my life my family has jokingly called the zerk fitting a "zerker" my whole life. For shits and giggles. I knew zerker wasn't the real name. But I thought it was just called a zerk fitting.
I just saw somebody call it a grease nipple.
I will forever call hear grease nipple every time I see a zerker now.
Worst part is I had to look up if this is a common name. IT IS. PEOPLE CALL THEM GREASE NIPPLES. I'M SO SAD IN ALL MY YEARS THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'M HEARING THE TERM GREASE NIPPLE
Jamie: Yeah so everything's fixed and it's all good but after replacing the temp sensor the truck is overheating.
Blu: How bad?
Jamie: We drove it a few blocks and once it got back it was redlined.
Blu: And the thermostat?
Jamie: We replaced it. It looked fine and there's a new one now but it's still overheating. We want to keep it until Monday to figure out why that is. Does that happen often?
Blu: I've only had it overheat one time and that's because my dad was idling it for fifteen minutes while talking to a neighbour in 102-degree heat. I've never had it overheat while driving it... Is the motor actually overheating or is the gauge just saying it is?
Jamie: [speaking Spanish to a tech] He says the motor is behaving normally. You'd think with the gauge being where it is then the radiator would be boiling.
Blu: You'd think. It must be a defective sensor or something.
Jamie: Maybe. [Speaking Spanish to tech] He says he doesn't want to send it out just yet in case the motor overheats and ends up damaged.
Blu: I get that. Would Monday be better?
Jamie: Monday works. We'll try to have it out that afternoon.
Blu: Good by me. Thanks boys, appreciate you mob.
Jamie: No problem. We'll update you if anything changes.
Blu: Thanks.
Blu, hours later, at like midnight last night, scouring old Ford forums and finding the holy grail: MotherFUCKER I KNEW IT WAS THE SENSOR!
