Story time: foreign language phrase mishaps
My sister's senior year of college she lived in a university apartment that also housed the international exchange students, well she met her British boyfriend there and then he brought over his best friend all the time who was from Bolivia and doesn't speak English well and omg the misinterpretations were wonderful. (Lets call the Bolivian Hector and her boyfriend John) Hector- I met this beautiful girl today Im going to propose to her Sis- .......you're going to what? Hector- I'm going to propose to her and take her out for dinner Sis-.....you're going to ask her out on a date? Hector - yeah thats what I said, I'm going to propose to her Sis- Propose means asking for her hand in marriage not a date Hector- ohhhh Another hilarious one was her having to explain the difference between "hitting a girl", "hitting ON a girl", and "hitting that". Because for a moment she thought he punched some random girl he met in the candy isle of foodlion 😂😂😂 And the first time she brought her boyfriend to her apartment she called ahead to a roommate of hers who often wandered around in her underwear and asked her if she was wearing pants before she opened the door.....pants refers to underwear in England....he thought her roommate wandered around naked for over a month before he realized that.....
