The rise of sophisticated scripted dramas in the States has been accompanied by a similar rise of such programming in many other countries with active TV industries. Denmark, for instance, has become one of the most important producers of TV drama in the world, while France has proven surprisingly capable at creating gripping cop shows.

A few years back had an argument with some blog readers about the Oscar Best Foreign-Language Film Award and the meaning of Foreign-Language. The Reason? I say "SILENCE" is a foreign-language in Hollywood! LOL (most if not ALL Hollywood movies are "foreign" to silence!).
But this year the discussion perhaps could be a reality if Ukraine selects Cannes 2014 sensation and multiple award winner: The Tribe. First Ukraine has to select film. Second we have to see if AMPAS agrees that silence is a "foreign-language", is no joke as this debate has been present in previous editions (the latest I recall was for The Artist) with different outcomes. Then they have to consider that actually actors are speaking with sign language and they're speaking Ukrainian sign language...
So I'm hoping Ukraine selects The Tribe just to see if debate opens this year again ... (lol)
