Seven Sentences Sunday Tag

Look, these tag games that happen on a certain day stress me out because I usually don't have time to answer on the given day. But today is Sunday and my dance practice was cancelled so I can answer this on time. YAY!

From Foreigner God

The young man looks up. “You killed him you monster!” With his shout comes a wave of force that throws Thiery and the chair he’s been sitting on against the wall behind him. With surprising agility, the priest jumps over the table and launches at Thiery. He almost manages to get his hands around Thiery’s throat when ropes made of water restrain him mid-move. He opens his mouth but his words are cut by more water closing around his neck. Guards hurry to take him and Thiery climbs to his feet.

Silent Sunday Tag

(I know it's Monday)

Rules: Write something without any dialogue, inner dialogue aka thoughts is allowed but that's it, thoughts and actions, to keep the scene/snippet/whatever you wish 'silent'

From Foreigner God

(This scene is everything but silent but I chose it because it's Yarren seeing Thiery and Ikath for the first time)

Yarren draws his cape deeper into his face as he pushes through the crowd. The streets are decked with colorful banners and fresh flowers and it seems as if all Carraredian inhabitants of the Capital have gathered at one place. Today there's no doubt that the city belongs to them. They are celebrating a huge triumph and are accordingly exuberant. Yarren passes people who spontaneously burst into song or throw flower petals at each other. He’s offered drinks and food several times despite hiding his face under a shaggy cape. Nobody seems to even think of an Istritu showing up here.

Yarren flinches at the sound of horns and drums. The crowd shifts and quietens for a moment - everybody draining their necks like a flock of geese. Then the procession comes closer and the crowd erupts with cheers. 

Yarren stumbles as somebody tries to push past him, but he holds his ground. He has a good view and he’s not giving it up.

Rows of standard bearers march at the head of the procession followed by mounted knights in colorful tabards. Then finally there he is. The lord governor of the Istritu colony. Yarren has to admit he looks regal on his tall black horse. He must be considered very handsome by Carraredian standards. He’s tall and broad-shouldered with dark hair and pale skin. His beard is neatly trimmed in the latest Carraredian fashion accentuating a sharp jaw and full lips. He turns his head and waves at a flock of cheering children near Yarren’s spot so Yarren gets a full view of his face. A chill runs down his spine when he sees the scar running down the left half of his face splitting it in the middle. The injury must have been life-threatening and he has lost or injured his eye judging by the gem-adorned eyepatch he's wearing. His other eye, though, is blue and piercing. Yarren tears his gaze off him as if staring for longer could hurt him. He focuses on the next ride. It must be the lord governor’s wife. She’s wearing a gorgeous purple cape that drags down the sides of her horse. The color compliments her white skin and black hair nicely. She’s smiling and waving at the crowd, her eyes sparkling as much as the gems in her complicated headpiece which is not exactly a crown but it might as well be for how excited the crowd is seeing her.

Excerpts from my WIP Foreigner God

jealous

The worst part, Yarren thinks, is that he can't tell whether he's jealous or envious. He never thought Thiery could be his. They are too different in everything from status to beliefs. Seeing him with Ikath, though, comfortable in his vulnerability as she wrapped her arms around his broad body... it stirred something in him.

“How are you?” he asks. “I’ve been better, but I think I might be able to get up.” “He needs to rest,” Una says. “And he should drink more of this.” She hands a flask to Thiery who accepts it with a dutiful nod.  “I will see to him resting.” “Oh, will you?” Yarren raises an eyebrow. Thiery doesn’t smile, his face remains the same stern mask he wears around his people. It makes a lump grow in Yarren’s throat. Orien helps him get up, then pulls him into a brief hug. “I thought we lost you,” he whispers into Yarren’s ear. “Me too.”

“Most of you know that Yarren and I were searching for some answers at an old monastery,” he begins his recounting and starts walking back and forth to keep his nerves at bay. Public speeches are among the many things he’s been trained in, but it never came to him as easily as sword fighting.

But I'm not Istritu," Thiery says over the lump growing in his throat. "It doesn't matter." "It does," Thiery sighs gravely. "My people believe that the only ones who can use any kind of magical power are the servants of god. If anybody else shows a sign of magic, it's a death sentence." Yarren's tanned face pales.
