Maybe it was because she’d run away from her father that she’d felt a strange twist in her stomach when she saw the small blonde girl with the backpack that looked almost too big for her tiny frame. She recognized the lost look on her face as she glanced around, as if she was wondering where she should go. Lucy had worn that very same look on her face when she’d first arrived, and even now, she hadn’t heard a peep out of her father. Maybe he hadn’t even noticed she was gone....that was just going to make her grumpy though, so she’d leave the thought there.
She pursed her lips, knowing if she just walked away, she’d worry about the girl for the rest of the day. With that in mind, she made her way over, adjusting the strap of her purse.
“Hey,” she greeted with a small smile. “I couldn’t help but notice..you look a little lost. Did you come here by yourself?” Not that she’d seen any adult nearby, but she certainly hoped a girl this young hadn’t run away by herself and that the gut feeling she’d had was wrong.
“Are you looking for a particular place?”
