Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) resting on a leaf. For people expecting six legs on their insects, monarchs always look wrong. But they do have six — the forelegs of all Nymphalids are reduced in size and now seem to function as chemosensory organs. That’s a useless fact for next cocktail party.
