Worried that the season will be a bunch of empty flash...or will devolve into that sooner than other seasons. There's too much direct referencing/rehashing of known horror movies, rather than originality in playing with and combining horror tropes.

I stopped watching after 20 minutes because I am a big baby .. Looks like all the great stuff happened after. Will watch gifs here :)
I loved the Art Deco set design, even though it was a bit over the top (real Art Deco was never that aggressive in every single inhabitable space). The real hotel. I first became aware of this hotel a couple years ago, in news stories about this: “ In February 2013, the nude body of Elisa Lam, a 21-year-old Canadian student, was found inside one of the water supply tanks on the hotel roof. Lam went missing January 31, and her decomposed body was discovered on February 19 by a maintenance worker in one of the rooftop water tanks, after guests had complained about low water pressure and water that "tasted funny". Authorities later ruled Lam's death as an accidental drowning. Video surveillance footage taken from inside an elevator showed Lam acting strangely, pressing multiple elevator buttons, hiding in the corner of the elevator, and waving her arms wildly, causing widespread speculation about the cause of her death.”
I love the Lady Gaga/Matt Bomer characters. I love Kathy Bates’ character, I love the juxtaposition of Art Deco and early 90s design. I reserve my opinion for later episodes.
