FOREO LUNA 3 plus Review: Thermal Facial Cleansing for Sensitive Skin
One of the perks of getting older is experiencing new things in life. Some of the things include getting backaches randomly while others include being called “Mdm” while your friends of the same age are called “Ms”.
It is times like this where I start finding anti-aging tools before staff members start asking me for a senior’s discount card. That’s where LUNA 3 plus by FOREO Sweden comes in place.

Founded in 2013, this Swedish high-end beauty tech company, FOREO is known for its smart beauty devices such as ISSA, their smart toothbrush range. That futuristic-looking toothbrush was even featured in a Star Trek Discovery episode.
Although these products sounded ‘exotic’, I assure you, it’s made for everyone. You can find their products in over 10,000 stores worldwide from Sephora to H&M and more. Their products have also been endorsed by celebrities like Paris Hilton, Rita Ora and more.

The LUNA 3 plus is a 3-in-1 smart beauty device that cleanses, tones and massages your face, leaving you with cleaner and younger-looking skin. This is the ultimate beauty-tech accessory for those who want to preserve their skin’s youthful radiance.
The unique feature of the LUNA 3 plus smart facial massager is the thermal element users will get to experience during cleansing. This feature is exclusive to the LUNA 3 plus and it can help improve one’s blood circulation as well.
Its sleek Swedish design allows you to hold the device comfortably during usage. Plus, the design made the device look like something from the future, allowing you to proudly display it on your vanity for all to see.
The LUNA 3 plus comes in two different models, for two specific skin types: normal skin and sensitive skin.
As I have a combination of oily, dry and sensitive skin, I went with the model that is suitable for sensitive skin.
FOREO LUNA 3 plus for Sensitive Skin
The difference between LUNA 3 plus for normal skin and sensitive skin in the silicone bristles. LUNA 3 plus for sensitive skin has softer and finer touch points as compared to the device for normal skin. This helps those with sensitive skin cleanse your skin thoroughly without irritating it.
Additionally, the device uses extra-soft silicone bristles instead of nylon bristles because silky-smooth silicone is 35 times more hygienic than nylon bristles.
This makes the device 100% waterproof and that includes the charging point as well. That means you’re able to bring the device into the shower without fear of it malfunctioning.
The great thing about this investment is you do not need to spend more money to replace the brush head. All you have to do is wash the device after use and charge it when it’s out of battery. One full charge can last up to 125 uses and depending on how often you use the device, you will only need to charge it every few months.
Thermo-Facial Cleansing
Aside from being a facial cleansing brush, facial massager and facial toner in one, the LUNA 3 plus also provides thermal technology during cleansing. This heated cleansing device is the only beauty tech that offers thermo-facial cleansing, firming massage and targeted microcurrent all in one.
The thermal cleansing anti-ageing feature is considered the most essential part of an effective cleansing routine for it helps melt away the impurities and loosen sebum that were trapped beneath the skin’s surface. This can help reduce breakouts and improve your skin’s blood circulation, leaving you with more radiant skin.
Since heat is difficult to be manipulated manually, LUNA 3 plus by FOREO Sweden allows you to control the temperature on your FOREO app. The FOREO app allows you to adjust the temperature to be as low as 40°C or as high as 55°C.
This has to be one of my favourite features of the device for the heat not only warms up my face during the cleansing but it brightens up the area as well.
Best Facial Cleansing Brush
LUNA 3 plus is the best facial cleansing brush for sensitive skin for it helps cleanse your skin thoroughly but prevents breakout as well. Its ultra-hygienic silicone touchpoints work together with up to 8,000 T-Sonic pulsations per minute to channel a deep and gentle heat onto one’s skin while they cleanse.
It has 16 T-Sonic pulsations intensities which help lift away impurities and enhance product absorption while cleansing. This aids in maximising the effectiveness of your favourite cleanser.
FOREO Micro-Foam Cleanser
I am using FOREO Micro-Foam cleanser with the LUNA 3 plus. The Micro-Foam Cleanser is a gentle and creamy cleanser that is suitable for all skin types. This dermatologist-tested cleanser transforms into micro-bubbles which lift impurities from within the pores, purify the skin and remove excess oil.
It has a skin-friendly formula which is gentle and non-stripping, which means your skin would not feel tight after cleansing. Ingredients such as Amino acids and vitamin E help moisturise and protect your skin as well. By the end of your cleanse, your skin will feel soft and look vibrant.
This vegan and cruelty-free cleanser does not contain:

How to use LUNA 3 plus for Cleansing?
The LUNA 3 plus is safe and gentle enough to be used daily, morning or night. You can also use this whenever you need a deeper cleanse.
I use it once a day with the Micro-Foam Cleanser. You can use any cleanser with the device as long as it is not clay-based, silicone-based or grainy for they may damage the silicone touch-points.
Do note that using this device does not eliminate the need for makeup removers, you should always properly remove your makeup first before using this device to cleanse your skin.
You can choose to squeeze the cleanser directly on the device or spread it evenly on your face before using the device. I like to put my cleanser on the device before using it for the cleanser to become foamier than way.
When you first use it, the device will be at the default temperature, timing and intensity. You can adjust all of these in the settings and every part of the face can have its own intensity and timing. The temperature will maintain constant throughout the whole session.
Your face will be sectioned into four areas:
Forehead and nose
Right cheek
Chin
Left cheek
It will move in a clockwise direction and when you time it up, the pulsation will stop slightly before moving to the next section of your face. The bottom of your LUNA 3 plus will blink once as well as a visual signal.
You can adjust each section to be as long as one minute or as short as 10 seconds and for its intensity, you can pick between 1 to 16.
You can set the temperature to be between 40°C to 55°C although, after 50°C, the app will give you a warning advising you that the device should be used externally only and to consult the doctor being using this device if you have a history of or any existing medical conditions like epilepsy, heart disease etc. or if you are pregnant. It also warns you to not use it if you have an implanted medical device and discontinue if there is any irritation.
When using or immediately after using, do not touch the thermal touchpoints and let it cool down for about a few seconds first. You can rinse it under water to wash out your cleanser in the process.
My Customised LUNA 3 plus Settings for Cleansing
For me, I set my LUNA 3 plus at 48°C for I like it to be warm but not too warm since Singapore is a tropical country. All four sections of my face are at intensity level 7 while the timing for the four sections is different.
I set the timing for both cheeks to be at 15 seconds each for that’s an adequate amount of time to circulate my cheeks while the forehead and nose area I set at 25 seconds. I use the first 25 seconds to not only cleanse my forehead and nose area but to slightly spread the cleanser from my device to the rest of my face and neck.
As for my chin area, I set it at 30 seconds for I use that time to cleanse my neck as well. I do not focus on my throat during the cleansing.
While cleansing, I ensure my device is never in one spot and always rotating around the surface in a circular motion. I also do not press the device harshly against the skin for it is supposed to gently glide on your skin. The total time of my cleansing session is 1 minute 25 seconds, excluding the rinsing of the cleanser.
I feel that this session is a great time to set aside for yourself, thoroughly cleanse your skin and unwind your worries after a long harsh day. After utilising the device, I also noticed how my skin does not break out even during the time of the month.
LUNA 3 plus Microcurrent Anti-Ageing Side
Right at the back of the LUNA 3 plus there are some ridges and two small spheres. The spheres are used for a microcurrent facial. At-home microcurrent facial treatments have proven to be an effective way to lift one’s face without having to go under the knife.
This non-invasive option for anti-ageing not only helps give you a V-shaped chin but it targets specific areas such as the laugh lines or around your eyes as well. Utilising a low-level electrical current, LUNA 3 plus gently stimulates the skin for a firmer, youthful appearance.
You can choose from 15 different microcurrent intensities from the microcurrent app or you can choose to follow one of their designated treatments. If you are new to microcurrent facials, I would suggest starting at a lower level before increasing your level of intensity.
When utilising the microcurrent feature, you must utilise it with a water-based serum. The water-based serum acts as a conductive layer for the microcurrent to get past the surface of the skin.
I am utilising FOREO Sweden’s recommended serum, the SERUM SERUM SERUM.
SERUM SERUM SERUM
FOREO SERUM SERUM SERUM contains squalane-infused micro-capsules to help protect your skin, balance oil production and reduce ageing. It also contains hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid attracts and holds on to water, making your skin plumper and more hydrated.
Additionally, this serum also aids in fighting free radicals and gives your skin a healthier and youthful look. The product is formulated without Phenoxyethanol, parabens, alcohol, Disodium Edta, mineral oil, allergens and Fragrance. It is also cruelty-free.
To activate LUNA 3 plus microcurrent feature, you have to use the FOREO App. Do remember to thoroughly dry your LUNA 3 plus before entering the facial massaging and microcurrent mode. Every LUNA 3 plus also comes with a packet of SERUM SERUM SERUM for you to use.
FOREO App
Before using the device, one must register the device on the FOREO app and sync it to your smart skincare tool. In the app, you can adjust all the settings: massage and cleansing intensity, length of time to spend on each area of the face, microcurrent level and the temperature of the device during cleaning.
If you’ve lost the device, there’s even a “find my device” function which will make your device pulsate so that you can find it.
After you have registered your device and set it to your preferred settings, you do not need the app when cleansing. All you have to do is to click the button at the back of LUNA 3 plus and it will automatically start your cleansing routine.
Once your routine is done, the device will turn itself off. If you feel that you are done with the device before it finishes your routine, you can simply click and hold the same button and it will be turned off.

After you’ve chosen the treatment, you can mirror the model demonstrating the treatments. The length of time each treatment will take depends on the chosen treatment.
I enjoy mirroring the targeted treatments such as the laugh line treatment and targeted eye treatment as compared to the full facial toning because of the size of the microcurrent spheres on the smart device. The size of the spheres helps users target the hard-to-reach spots on their face.
However, if I am doing a full microcurrent facial treatment on my face and neck, I would still prefer using my FOREO BEAR for its large spheres allow me to cover a large area quickly.
On the other hand, if you do not have a microcurrent device and are looking for an all-in-one device, the LUNA 3 plus is a great device to get you introduced to microcurrent while cleansing and even massaging your face at the same time.
How to do a facial massage with FOREO LUNA 3 plus?
To activate the microcurrent or massage mode, you have to activate it with your app. For the microcurrent mode, you can choose to follow a treatment or follow your heart by clicking the “start massage” button.
After activating that mode, you can choose to add microcurrent into your firming face massage routine or simply adjust the intensity. There are fifteen microcurrent levels you can choose from. One being the lowest and 15 being the highest. To turn off the microcurrent, set your microcurrent level to 0.
You can also choose the level of pulsation with or without the microcurrent activated, one being the lowest and 16 being the highest. There’s no timer for this mode for you can simply stop whenever you want.
If you are not using the microcurrent feature, the face massaging mode allows your products to penetrate deeper into your skin while improving the delivery of oxygen and nutrients in your skin.
It also helps reduce puffiness if you drank too much water or ate too much sodium the night before.
FOREO LUNA 3 Plus Review
LUNA 3 plus by FOREO Sweden has been a great addition to my skincare routine. I have been using it nightly for almost a month now and I am enjoying the time I get to spend thoroughly cleansing my skin.
FOREO LUNA 3 plus Before and After
Usually, I spent less than a minute daily roughly cleansing my skin with my cleanser of choice but ever since I’ve switched to FOREO Micro-Foam Cleanser with LUNA 3 Plus, I noticed my skin looked healthier and the skin tone became more even. My pores look cleaner too.
After regular usage of the device, my skin does not feel tight like how it usually does when I just wash it or if the humidity is too low. I enjoy the thermal heating on the device the best for it feels like my face is getting a warm hug while it is being cleansed.
All in all, I enjoy the multi-features of the LUNA 3 plus and how I can customise every aspect of the smart beauty device.
