Officials of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers’ Union in Port Arthur had some war of the strike, but were awaiting additional information from representatives at McKirdy.

It was stated this morning the men were to leave the camps and proceed in McKirdy, following which they were to make an attempt to reach Port Arthur late in the day.

It was understood that some men were remaining at the camp, but for the most part the company intended the camps should remain closed indefinitely. Principal reasons for this strike, according to the union officials, were the lack of proper facilities in the camp for the comfort and the health of the men. There had been some antipathy shown toward several of the cooks, but those had left the camp, union officials said.

Provincial Police reported today to be in the neighborhood of the camps wired headquarters here that all was quiet.

They had been building a deputy headquarters, constructing docks and doing other general construction work for the Ontario Forestry Branch.
