Wussy put forth a blend of shoegaze and hard rock on Forever Sounds, and it’s the kind of thing you can get lost in.

On Forever Sounds, the guitars and bass swirl around you, seemingly to purposely set you adrift. And I think the music does an excellent job at that. Throughout the whole album, I found myself just gazing at a wall and thinking, often not even about the music.

In this way, Forever Sounds becomes an album about introspection, and this theme is majorly conveyed through the lyrics, which each song seeming to focus either on the speaker’s past or future, looking for things to value. 

Parts of the album feature a Pixies-esque catchiness, while others feature a sort of Swans aggression, but ultimately, Wussy comes through with a sound that is uniquely theirs.

This album is more than worth the journey through it. Throw it on and see where it takes you.

Wussy. It’s no surprise that I love this band. My review of their latest is in this month’s MAGNET Magazine (the one with Dr. Dog on the cover). I wrote this review a few months ago, so I’d like to go on record and say that, since then, Forever Sounds has continued to reveal new layers and noisy pleasures. Again, no surprise. In particular, “Donny’s Death Scene” -- which gives The Big Lebowski a new spin of stormy drama by way of Neil Young’s “Danger Bird” -- is a real barnburner.
