Not until recently, tbh. Probably sometime around when you started sending me all these great fics lol. When I was younger I wasn’t really crazy about them as an antagonistic hate pair but reading about them post-war made me see the relationship from a totally different angle.
I never expected to like this ship as much as I do. I’m sure much of it has to do with the fact that I’m lucky enough to have been sent such amazing fics, but I’m just so touched by the idea of these boys dealing with what they went through together, both in their childhoods and during the war, and learning to move past everything that defined them before to actually forge a new future for themselves, damn the Prophet and the public and Lucius and whatever else anyone wants from them.
What makes me happy about them:
Watching the inevitable process of them realizing, to their absolute horror, they have so in common and could be great friends. Also Harry realizing he’s attracted to Draco and without fail thinking something like “But it’s Malfoy.”
What makes me sad about them:
How miserable they almost always are up until the end, because they don’t know what they’re doing with their lives, or because “No, this is Potter we’re talking about, you can’t say anything, this is wrong.”
things done in fanfic that annoys me:
I’m spoiled and require that post-war fics at least somewhat accurately portray how difficult life would be for these kids. Also I can’t endorse fics that fridge Ginny for the sake of convenience because that’s lazy and terrible.
things I look for in fanfic:
If they’re on your bookmark list lol. Also in general I prefer fics that have a slower building because considering the characters involved that only makes sense I think, and fics that focus on the other people in their lives as well, not just the ship.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
I was always very fond of Harry/Luna growing up, though I haven’t actually kept up with that recently. As for Draco…I dunno, there wasn’t really anyone else in his life who I think would work well.
My happily ever after for them:
I don’t really care what careers they have or what they’re doing, I just want them to have a big happy family filled with Molly Wesley’s sweaters and gifts from Narcissa and lots and lots of people who love and support them and they’re happy where they are in life and have made their own choices and everything is warm and good.

I dunno about favorite, but I could see them enjoying watching movies together and then riffing and commenting on everything.
