"I’d kill you if I had any mercy." (death eater marls, maybe?)
There was nothing, nothing in the world that felt so sickening as this betrayal. Dorcas felt as if she was going to throw up as her eyes looked at the person she had called her best friends for years, but now looked like a stranger, who just happened to be residing in the exact same body. Marlene’s eyes were missing the hint of life and mischief they used to have as they stared down at Dorcas coldly.
"Marlene - what are you..” Dorcas started confused, but Marlene wasn’t there to get her out. She almost seemed amused to see Dorcas in such a state - battered and bruised. "How could you?”
Marlene’s lips were thin, one end was curled up in a small smile. It was obvious to everyone who the stronger person was in that room. Marlene. Dorcas’ body had been exhausted, every part of her felt like it had been beaten up. Five hours ago, she had still been walking through Hogsmeade, four hours ago she had felt the cruciatus curse fly through her body for the very first time.
It was quite inevitable, when you were fighting in a war, that you would end up hurt. But to he humiliated, beaten and hurt like she had been in the last few hours was not something she had been prepared for. But Dorcas was strong, even in that stage of the war, and she had not let any information slip over her lips. The only things she had said were angry slurs and frightened begs.
She had remained quite sane, too. Dorcas was not longing for death yet, nor was she close to giving in. Her thoughts were still, even though fear and pain were clouding them, remotely calm and clear.
Well, that was until she walked in. Suddenly, she was aware of every muscle that was aching in her body, every drop of blood that had been spilled that day. There was not one clear thought in her head any more, only anger, pain and that horrible feeling of betrayal. Dorcas wanted to jump on and slap Marlene, but at the same time she longed for her hug, for her support and friendship.
Slowly, she started scrambling to her feet, not wanting to be lower than Marlene. But the blonde shook her head and used the heel of her foot to push Dorcas down. “No, no. We’re not doing that.”
Crouching down, Marlene looked at Dorcas, enjoying every bit of Dorcas’ reaction. “I’m sorry, love, but you always were naive. Trusting me was just once again your naivety proving itself.” Her finger placed itself under Dorcas’ chin and lifted it up slightly. “Now, don’t be angry. This is a war, after all, and that’s what happens.”
Dorcas hand lashed out and stroke Marlene’s face, a loud smack filling the room. “Leave me the fuck alone.” She hissed. “I don’t want to hear it. Just leave me alone and fuck off.”
But before she could continue, she felt the familiar feeling of a wand pressing against her throat. Biting her lips, Dorcas told herself that crying was no option. “You know, Doe, I could just end it right here, right now. I could kill you and not even flinch. I would enjoy watching the light leave your eyes.”
She was lying - she must have been lying because there was no way that their friendship had meant nothing - nothing - to Marlene. “Don’t fucking lie. Don’t fucking do this. I know you. You pretend to be things you’re not, and most of the time that was you pretending to be okay, or pretending to be over Malfoy or whatever, and even though you may be a Death Eater, you don’t mean that. You’re just pretending to be something you’re not to scare me, to make me hate you because maybe that makes it easier.” Dorcas narrowed her eyes. “But maybe I’m wrong and maybe I have been wrong about you all my fucking life. Prove it to me, then. Kill me.”
Marlene licked her lips and remained silent for a long time. “I’d kill you if I had any mercy,” she hissed, standing up again and putting her wand away before turning around and strutting off - just like she used to at Hogwarts.
