I Cry Even When I Dream

People will let you down. They’ll perpetually disappoint. Even those closest to you, that you believed in, and trusted with absolute care, they can be there for you one day, and be gone the next. 

I didn’t know a broken heart could be surpassed in pain. 

Today, I do not believe I have the strength to continue my graduate program and I am likely going to drop out before next semester. Though there were great opportunities given to me, I would rather bow out when I am at my peak, then endure the humiliation of slowly falling apart. 

San Francisco, which once meant the promise of a new beginning, now offers nothing but torturous pain. This city has been a struggle since the beginning, and the one person that was helping to make it bearable, turned his back on me. 

I’ll never understand how a person who promised to be my friend until the end, my best friend, beyond friends, who would have my back and I his, no matter what, could shut me out of his life forever. 

I don’t believe in anything anymore. Least of all, I believe in the goodness of people and the power of friendship. If you still believe in these things, the greatest way to show it, is to do. 

There was once a small-town boy who captured my heart and imagination. I put all the faith I had in him, and today I have nothing left to show for it. 

If you ever are thinking of leaving your friends, take caution. Friendship is a relationship. Relationships demand sacrifice. If you are unwilling to sacrifice for somebody else, you are unfit to be a friend. It is a greater reflection of you as a person if you decide to give up on your friends. Always show kindness when you can. There is enough pain in this world already.
