The seven year old played with a lock of her hair though she couldn't hold her frown for too long as she stared at her mother. Her shoulders slumped down, a small billow of steam released as she exhaled out. 

“All kids are special to their parents.” She mumbled out, “ Doesn't spread the worth to anyone else.” like Abuela. Abuela only had eyes on Isabela as her favourite grandchild of her. The Special Grandchild. Fuega couldn't help the slither of jealousy at the thought, the air around her warming up a little to reflect that.

What surprised her most of all, really, was just how easy it was to wake up each day next to Bucky, to work together and build a home together. What once had felt like it was constantly not the right time, now felt like the bedrock upon which her life was built.

They’d only been married for a few weeks; though they’d been dating a year before that, and their relationship has been on and off since the war. Peggy looked up from the file by her oatmeal bowl, at Bucky’s words, smiling across the breakfast table at him. “Too much, as always,” she joked, her smile become gentle as he brushed his lips over her knuckles. “Is this your way of telling me I need to slow down?”

Ella sat outside, curled up, large hoodie encased her body, as she watched the sky slowly change as she tried to keep her emotions and powers at bay. She looked impossibly small curled within the clothing, hood covering her head. She jerked her head towards the door before it even opened hearing someone by it on the other side, to see it open and show Laura who had two mugs in her hand. She made her way over to Ella, who eyed her warily, and offered Ella a mug. 

Ella took the mug, sniffing it suspiciously before saying, “Thank you.” She sipped a small bit of the cinnamon apple tea, before continuing. “For this and for letting me stay here for a little while. I am sure it is an inconvenience.”

It’s becoming a bit of tradition at this point that every time she returns to see the Jarvises, Ana always seems to have a new garment for her to wear. At first Peggy had tried to protest--she didn’t want Ana feeling obligated to make her anything--but once her friend had made it very clear that was the furthest from the truth, she’d surrendered.

Peggy looks up at Ana’s question. She’s referring to a scar that’s only just healed on her outer thigh. “Should have ensured the bad guy didn’t have a knife,” she said flippantly. Then more genuinely, “I’m alright, Ana. Really.”

Flour clung to the countertop, their hands, their aprons... Both women were focused on the dough rising in the oven. Tres Leches was her favorite, and being able to make it, together, would surely make it taste all the better.

“You know, I expected Camilo to come along and beg for scraps,” Luisa huffed, wiping her hands on her apron (Like she’s seen her mother do so many times before) Julieta hummed.

“I had a gut feeling he might, so I have sent him along with Mirabel to get errands. I wanted this to be a moment just for us, Luisita.”

“Mooooom..!”

When Julieta grabbed her daughters cheeks and brought her down for a kiss, flour now clung to both their faces, as well.

She knew what he was doing. Peggy knew the picture she must be presenting, knew his overly jovial voice for just what it was--a ploy to pull her from her own head.

It was the only day of the year she allowed herself this maudlin grief. He knew this. With a sigh, Peggy stepped aside to allow the man into her apartment. "Mr. Jarvis, this isn't necessary," she protested, though quite frankly she felt too raw to put up much of a fight. And the chocolate cake he had in hand did smell delectable.

Peggy can feel her heart beat so damn heavily inside her chest. She hates when it happens. She rarely shows when she’s not feeling alright; she usually keeps everything bottled up. And that’s what she’s trying to do one more time, but she sees Edwin coming at her side. It annoys her, but on the other hand, it also makes her feel quite RELIEVED.

“I’m... I’m sorry.” Well, it’s not entirely her fault, but she still feels like she’s being a BURDEN every time she’s not feeling alright. “I’ll be fine in a moment.”
