Now the light falls across the open field...
This is the last of meeting places, where the sand meets innocent blood. Let us go then, you and I, let us be no further to death's dream kingdom than the men that now there dream. O, that this too too solid flesh would melt, thaw and resolve itself into a dew! Shall I put myself to nothing so as to dream anything?
God of the impossible things, your living dreams are waning, your children swallow dry the cries and tears of this dreaded kingdom. We whisper together and call you and yet we are quiet and meaningless.
We are rats and hollow voices and prayers in the wind.
We ask is it forever? Is it forever that the wife shall mourn her husband by raging seas, that the father shall bury his son on a grave a million miles away from home, that the child shall cry to his father, Is this the end of the world?
(And the rest is silence.)
