an: not proof read bc i lost patience sorry 💔
it was almost midnight when you heard the knock.
at first, you thought you imagined it — the soft rap on the door barely cutting through the low hum of your playlist and the quiet buzz of thoughts spinning aimlessly in your head. but then it came again, just a little firmer.
you pulled the door open, half-distracted, not expecting anything — and then everything else fell away.
gyuvin was standing there. cheeks flushed from the night air, hoodie sleeves scrunched at the elbows, and a slightly chaotic bouquet of flowers clenched in one hand like it was the only thing keeping him grounded.
he wasn’t smiling, not in the usual goofy way — this time it was soft. hesitant. a little nervous. the kind of smile that said he knew exactly what he was doing, and was scared of it anyway.
“hey,” he said, voice quiet like the hallway wasn’t ready to hear it.
you blinked. “gyuvin... what are you doing here?”
“i couldn’t wait anymore.”
he held the flowers out between them — sunflowers, baby’s breath, two pink peonies, something purple that might’ve been lavender, and a red rose tucked right in the center. a mess, really. but a beautiful one.
“i don’t know what any of these are supposed to mean,” he admitted, eyes flicking between the bouquet and your face. “i just picked the ones that felt like you. like sunshine. like home.”
your fingers brushed the petals, stunned into stillness. “you remembered i like peonies.”
“i remember everything about you,” gyuvin said, with a kind of quiet certainty that made your chest ache. “always have.”
something shifted in the air then — the kind of silence that doesn’t ask to be filled, but felt heavy and familiar.
gyuvin took a slow breath. “i’ve been in love with you for a long time. longer than i want to admit. and i told myself it wasn’t the right time, or that i was imagining it, or maybe you didn’t feel the same... but none of that ever made it go away.”
he looked at you like he was memorizing something for the last time. “i think i started falling for you when you brought me snacks before my company audition before we even knew each other. or maybe it was when you offered to walk with me in the rain because you forgot your umbrella too and didn’t want me to feel like an idiot. or maybe it was just always there.”
your throat felt tight. like every second you’d spent pretending it was one-sided had caught up all at once.
“you could’ve told me,” you said softly.
“i was scared,” gyuvin breathed. “because it was you. because this mattered. and the truth is, i don’t want to be your maybe anymore. i want to be your boyfriend. officially. publicly. completely.”
he dropped his hand to his side, bouquet tilting just a little. “so... will you?”
you didn’t say anything at first. just stared at him — at the boy you had loved in quiet corners, in passing glances, in every almost-confession they’d swallowed for years.
and then you laughed. not because it was funny, but because it was relief years of it, crashing down like a wave.
“i thought i was the only one,” you whispered. “i thought i was just imagining everything.”
“you weren’t,” gyuvin said, voice trembling now. “it’s always been you.”
you stepped forward, and gyuvin’s breath caught. you reached out, curling their fingers gently around his hoodie sleeve, grounding yourself in the realness of him
“yes,” you said. “of course i’ll be your boyfriend.”
the look on his face was almost too much. like every version of joy he’d ever felt collided at once.
“wait—really?” he blinked.
“yes,” you repeated, smiling so wide it almost hurt. “really.”
gyuvin didn’t even try to hold back — he dropped the flowers entirely, arms sliding around your waist as he pulled you into the kind of hug that said finally. you buried your face in his shoulder, laughing softly into the fabric of his hoodie.
they stood there for a while, just breathing each other in, heartbeats syncing like they had always meant to.
“we were so dumb,” you mumbled.
“yeah,” gyuvin whispered, pressing his cheek to your temple. “but we made it.”
